Myers shines at Sunrise

Good -

- Myers with a great night offensively IMO -- one crossbar, a couple of other great rushes (including starting the Vanek goal) and the blast in OT. He had a couple of solid hits, dropping his check once at the blueline and again in the near corner in the Sabres end, the post and was probably the most dangerous skater IMO.
- Winning 3 in a row! No. Way.
- Poms with a couple more helpers.
- Vanek with a big goal and great OT.
- Morrisonn, particularly in the OT.
- Weber, even on the right side, giving them more strong play and continues to hold down a valueable position for them. The goal was timely and a demonstration that on-net is more important than how-hard.
- Byron again with all sorts of scrappy out there.
- Hecht deserves some props for the faceoff win and then screen on the Weber goal.

Bad -

- Jesus, this was boring until OT.
- Butler on the eventual GTG sequence. Fumble behind the net, bad icing, misses on the clear that winds up in the net. Yeah. Cooler. Two weeks.

Ugly -

- Can the Florida scorer just concede he doesn't know what a real hit is? Ninety-two credited hits between the two teams for the game. Ninety. Two. They barely bumped into one another.

Nice to see Myers rocking an old tribute to Denis Hamel!

Good:
- Winning 3 games in a row. Unbelievable.
- Myers. Dude was a ****ing beast tonight. He looked like his old self again.
- Vanek. I thought his cold streak would start tonight, I was wrong.
- Miller. He did a great job slowing down the pace when the Panthers had a lot of pressure in our zone. He looked calm and collected tonight.
- Hecht and Pominville both had a solid game.
- We're only 2 points out of the playoffs!

Bad:
- I thought Ennis had a couple bad defensive plays tonight, like the weakness along the boards that lead to the Florida 2nd goal.
- Connolly was really bad tonight. He just kills any momentum we gain on the ice.
- The reffing. It was abysmal at some points.
- Even though I thought overall Grier had a decent game, his second effort was pretty bad. If he made a good steal on a defensemen, he couldn't control the puck and make something out of it.

Ugly:
- Rod Brind'Amour

Yeah, Ennis on the second goal was rookie weak. But if Butler makes any of three other decisions, it never gets there.

Damn right!

I have a similar crush on McCormick now -- though I don't think Cody has the shot or mind that Hamel had, he's a better fighter and more physical. Similar sort though -- a guy in the bottom six who can provide some jam and some timely support scoring.

Bad:

Butler with the pee-wee hockey moment. You could almost see the fear in his eyes with the pressure coming on him. The guy has lost all confidence.

It's gotta be tough to keep your confidence and game when you're a healthy scratch for as long as he has been.

People have said this before, but we need to work on our shooting from the point. Too many guys just missed the target without it being blocked. Even Weber, who scored one from the point, missed quite a few times as well.

Other random remarks:
-The whole play on the Vanek goal was a thing of beauty.
-Get Connolly off this team ASAP.
-Myers was very solid tonight, and, obviously, dangerous in the offensive zone.
-Hecht, Gerbe, and Byron all generated some good chances that just didn't go in.

The Bizarre:
The Sabres (10th place) have a better goal differential than the Lightning (2nd place).

Amen to that! If I had some more ching I'd follow Jame's example and pick one of his jerseys up myself. But it's good to see Gaustad's game has been picking up lately; Hecht's too. Now if only Niedermayer could learn to score...

Myers -- +6 in his last 7 games played. Starting to shift that stat slowly but surely.

..I was actually in the population of fans that wanted this team to tank, and tank hard. After a few good games in January and the progression with Pegula buying the team, I'm ashamed to think that I wanted that... even if I don't think we'd stack up against Philly at all if we get them first round.

If (and big if) we win all our games in hand on everyone, we're actually in 7th place. A matchup against TB/Boston is still tough but not unwinnable.

Especially against the Lightning. They really seem like a 1st round and out team to me, I just can't buy into them. I've watched them a lot when the Sabres don't play, and I just don't see a team that is as good as their record indicates. Plus Roloson still hasn't beat the Sabres
