UFC 128: Your Pick(s)

This is probably going to blow up in my face, because it's a pretty tough main event to get a read on, but I'm curious what everyone thinks will happen in the main event -- or other fights, if you're inclined, though most seem, on first glance, not all that difficult to gauge.

I'll go first. I think Shogun destroys Jon Jones, probably some time around the 3rd or 4th round. He'll use his leg kick (almost 2800 pounds of force if you've seen the ESPN science of sport video) to slow Jones early, then move inside the pocket with almost reckless abandon. He'll wear him down with the clinch and eventually tag him with a right hook against the cage.

40% chance I'm completely and horribly wrong and Jon Jones tosses Shogun around and submits him, but I'm sticking with my guy

It really depends on how Shogun is after coming back from another injury. It hasn't been pretty in the past.

I hope Shogun wins. I think Jones will win, unfortunately. The guy seems like a big ******.

This is what I'm worried about. Shogan is one of my favourite fighters but he's been out for quite a while. He's an underdog too; a couple times I have been sooo close to putting some money on him and every time something stops me.

My predictions:

Schaub beats Cro Cop
Miller beats Marquardt
Miller beats Shalorus
Faber beats Wineland
Bones beats Shogun

Jon Jones is the future. Deal with it.

Jones will be a force in the future for sure but shogun has a lot more experience and I can't vote against the old Chute box/Pride guys.

Hopefully shogun wins and can put together some good title defenses. Bones will learn from a hard fought loss and come back stronger in the future

One thing to keep in mind with Shogun is that I believe previously he was coming off of double knee surgery. He also clearly rushed back and wasn't prepared for his fight with Forrest: it's rare to see Shogun gas like that to end a fight, especially a three-round fight. This time he took his time and has apparently been pain free since January. He claimed earlier this week he's in the best shape of his life. I hope it's true and not hype, because I have some money on the line

Jones may or may not be the future. There are a few guys every year who run through mediocre competition to get to 10/11-0. Jones has never fought anyone in the top 10, with the except of Bader, who is a borderline top 10 fighter. Shogun has beaten a who's who of top fighters: Rampage, Machida, Arona, Overeem, Lil Nog etc. His run to the grand prix in 2005 as a 23 year old is unbelievable. Might have had the best 6-month stretch any fighter has had in the young history of the sport.

I expect a good, competitive fight, but Shogun is a warrior. He will gameplan as extensively as Jackson's camp will gameplan with Jones. Just hoping for a good fight. If Jones wins I hope to see him tested. Shogun should come out and try to land a couple devastating kicks early -- maybe he'll land one and break a few ribs like he did when he fought Rampage. Hopefully he remembers that stomps and soccer kicks aren't legal in North America!

This is a really good analysis. You've swayed me - I just bet on Shogun.

If I lose you owe me $400

Basically this. If Shogun is on his game he is one of the best ever. If he hasn't been able to give it his all we may see another Shogun/Griffin x2 considering how much of a beast Jones is.

Pulling for Shogun in this one.

Bet $200 on Shogun. Helped that his payout is 2.95.

I think it's a 50/50 but the odds were pretty good if you think Shogun will win.
