colonel_korn, I'm impressed you were able to get all those screencaps of that episode. You must have the avi handy for situations like this

At least Lee Sweatt made it back sooner than we thought. Hopefully everyone heals like him.

I actually owe that to the rabid community of online Simpsons fans, originally I was just gonna do the Ozzie Smith one but when I saw they had all of them on there, I figured I had to go a little further.

Good to see Schneider embracing his new D-corps like that. Also good to see MG acquired some size too. That big dude at the back there looks pretty scary - I don't think many teams would wanna mess with him. He looks like he could bite somebody's head off if they're not careful.

As disappointing as these injuries are, I'm glad we can still all have a sense of humour about it. Positive thinking goes a long ways, so if we all believe this is the end of our bad luck, then we'll be fine. If we were really unlucky this would be happening during the playoffs, right?

Every team we face for awhile is going to be eyeing up our defence like a biker gang eyes up a room full of virgins.

Here's a game

Edler Ballard
Hamhuis Bieksa
Alberts Sweat

that's a solid NHL set of D straight up. I wonder how many teams would swap their D corp for our injury list D.

So is this the scenario?
Based on the (longest) estimated away time and time when injured

Bieksa Sharks 10 March
Sweatt Wild 14 March
Ballard Coyotes 18 March
Hamhuis (? Hope play off, at least)
Edler Play off
Alberts Play off

So 9 games (at most) without anyone of these 6 D-men,
2 games with just Bieksa,
2 game with Bieksa and Sweatt
10 games with at least Bieksa, Sweatt and Ballard back

Any of the remaining 3 might come back earlier (certainly Hamhius, Alberts could get back 2 weeks earlier). It would be nice to have all of them playing a couple of games before play off, but that is just a wish.

Speculation is Ballard will be back next week.

Ballard is ahead of schedule and will start practicing with the team as soon as they get back, I'd expect that he's maybe 10 days away. Hamhuis is already skating, so far (knock on wood) there hasn't been any set backs. I don't think the Hamhuis concussion was as bad as it looked, I personally think taking him out more than a single game was more of a precaution. I'd expect him too back in 10 days.

So Ballard and Hamhuis will both be back back March 1st. Bieksa will likely travel with the team on their next big road trip and start playing sometime throughout it. So by mid-March we weill have...

Hamhuis-Bieksa
Ehrhoff-Salo
Ballard-Tanev

I'm perfectly fine with that. It wouldn't shock me to see Edler back before playoffs too, the surgery was successful and he's a young guy that should heal quickly. In either case, when Edler get's back were stacked.

Did you guys noticed the curse of Salo continued last night? Goc tried to hit Salo but went into the boards and broke something. At least it wasn't one of our guys this time! We need to start carrying Xray machines with us on the road.

Some good news, people.

HAMHUIS STARTS TO SKATE
Dan Hamhuis (concussion) has started to skate and is likely to begin practicing soon.
This is great news but it should be tempered in case there is a setback. If all goes well, Hamhuis could be back within two weeks. He was injured on Feb. 9 when he was nailed into the boards by the Ducks Ryan Getzlaf. Stay tuned. Feb 18, 11:00:00 AM

BALLARD EXPECTS TO PLAY NEXT WEEK
Keith Ballard (knee) is ahead of schedule and is expected to play next week.
The original diagnosis for the defenseman was three-four weeks but it looks like it will be just over two weeks for Ballard. It couldn't come at a better time as the Vancouver blueline has been decimated by injuries. Ballard has five points and 37 penalty minutes in 43 games this season. Feb 18, 10:58:00 AM

That's nice. That could mean just 1 game in the current sad state and just 4 games left until both on them are back (Kings 5 March perhaps). Then just about 2 games until Bieksa is back, looks promising so far.

You want to give up assets so you can have Ian White sit in the press box during the playoffs?

Hrm, some guy in my office said he heard Hamhuis might play as early as Saturday? I haven't seen anything to that effect anywhere; though I believe he is skating again.

Yay. I still fully expect Ehrhoff to be playing 25 minutes a game though with Ballard only getting 9. At least not very much more of Oberg.

Looks like it could be a possibility. Although more likely he'll make his return on Tuesday (barring any set backs)

Quote:
Ahead of schedule, Ballard is expected to start skating with the Canucks any day now, and could play next week, about two weeks after spraining his knee.
.....
Hamhuis's improvement has been steady. He is on the verge on rejoining his teammates. If he is still symptom free it could be Saturday morning. If all goes well, he may participate in the morning skate leading up to the Dallas game. But even if he's cleared for contact as early as tomorrow, it doesn't mean he'll play.

Could be if he has been symptom free through his workouts and they are increasing the intensity. Though I would imagine he would be put through a full practice with contact and see how that goes before he gets back into the lineup. I would assume if Hamhuis had joined full practice we'd all know about it.

Either way I think there is a very good chance that a week this Saturday both Ballard and Hamhuis are in the lineup. And a BIeksa return would be just around the corner.

edit: I guess I should have read the post above this one before posting.

Thats good news - especially with Hamhuis because you never know with concussions usually.
