Apparently rumors of our defense's demise were greatly exaggerated.

Still going to miss Edler for awhile though.

Mid April my friend, mid April. As long as he's back by then. Hell, if he's back at the start of May not all is lost either.

"I'm confident that all of them will be back," Gillis said Wednesday. "With Dan, you're always reluctant to discuss any kind of prognosis when it comes to a concussion, so I'm not going to do that. He seems to be progressing well, but there's always an element of uncertainty.

"Keith seems to be a little bit ahead of schedule and doing quite well. Andrew's surgery was successful and we fully expect him to be 100 per cent come playoff time. And Alex Edler is moving along on schedule. There haven't been any setbacks or hiccups."

Despite it not being GM place anymore I thought we still had Olympias?

Anywho, great to see them back on the ice. Hope there aren't any setbacks!

The further you can bump Rome down the depth chart, the better things look.

I'd say Hamhuis will be game-time decision.

Botchford too:

The steady progress for Hamhuis since the hit he took on Feb. 9 means he could play against the Stars.

What really sucks is we have Ryan Parent, with 106 NHL regular season and 26 playoff games experience in Manitoba but we have to call up Evan Oberg because of recallable waivers.

How many games was it between the time Parent was finally sent down and Edler was injured?

Here's my convo (I don't know the proper term for a twitter-discussion) with Botchford this morning:

CharlesXXXavier: @BotchonCanucks Is Hamhuis aiming for a return tonight? Would be a nice surprise...

BotchonCanucks: @CharlesXXXavier i would guess tuesday.

Take it for what it's worth.

It'd probably be worthwhile to hold him out one more game, just in case. But who knows.

Game time decision makes no sense in the context of a concussion.

The NHL concussion protocol is something like you have to be a week symptom free and a passing result on the cognitive test. It's not the type of injury where you make a decision before game time. Unless he has already passed the mandated times and tests an the team is worried about conditioning, they will know in advance exactly when Hamhuis returns.

That would be my decision if it were mine. Better to be safe. We need him in the post-season than these two points.

Against a hard hitting forward corps like Dallas, yes. I would definately err on the side of caution here. Another concussion would severely limit our chances of going deep in the playoffs and the Canucks have a good lead on the rest in the West for the confernce title.

But Mitchell will not be subject to a league-mandated, seven-day wait period for players who suffer concussions.

That's because there is no such thing.

The idea that players with concussions have to wait a week after the hit before playing again is a widely held urban legend, according to the league.

"I've seen that written about before, but it doesn't exist," said NHL spokesman Gary Meagher. "That seven-day thing is not real in terms of the NHL.
http://www.canada.com/topics/sports/...e4bfbd&k=20953

This is all it requires:

"If at that time the player is determined to have had a concussion than that triggers the concussion protocol, which means the player must be kept out of play until they are symptom-free both at rest and on exertion," he said

Game time decision makes sense to me ... the team is probably thinking about what we're thinking about......... "should we rest him one more.. or put him in now"
