I can't believe this. It's ironic that night I was terrified watching the Canuck's D going back for the puck in thier own zone and thinkin', "Man, somebody else is going to get hurt as things happen in three's." Sure enough.
I'd call it a border line dirty hit. Getzlaf left his feet.
Not at the time of contact. He drove up and through the hit.
Cam Cole's analysis of the hit - Getzlaf hit well within the rules:
Hamhuis did spin away from the coming hit as he turned to fire the puck around the boards. Getzlaf did not hammer him into the glass, but basically skated right through the No. 2 on the back of Hamhuis's sweater as he flew by. No elbow, no first contact with the head, and his skates didn't leave the ice until after the contact.
Considering how Mitchell and Savard were (sensitivity to light and sound) that's probably as good as we can hope. Obviously it doesn't mean much but hopefully Hamhuis makes a quick, and full, recovery.

The Cooke hit on Savard was legal at the time but that didn't make it any less disgusting.
Unlike Cooke, Getzlaff did not target the head. It was as Vigneault said a good hockey hit by a big strong player that unfortunately resulted in an injury.
I agree, much as the fan in me found it frustrating in light of the chronic misfortunes the blue line have experienced. I'm sure Hamhuis won't make that mistake again.

I agree. It wasn't necessarily Getzlaf that caused the concussion, but Hamhuis' head hitting the boards. Hamhuis' positioning caused him to spin like that and hit the boards.

yep. it's frustrating to watch another member of our blueline go down like that, but it was just a big strong guy finishing his check and Hamhuis in a bad situation.
our d-men take a lot of hard knocks because of the style of play here. that quick puck moving style that is so fun and exciting to watch, sometimes puts d-men in really vulnerable positions. instead of throwing the puck in his feet, eating it and bracing for the hit, Hamhuis put himself in a vulnerable position in the process of moving the puck up. that's the way they play...it's a bit of a double edged sword really. a bit of bad luck, an unfortunate decision, and a big guy gunning for a big hit.
i mean, you also have to keep in mind we have a guy like Torres brought in specifically to harass the opposing d-men in much the same way. and he's not known to be above a dirty hit now and then...but you don't hear a lot of Canuck fans griping about his hits do you?
They pretty much have to put 'out indefinitely' because of the type of injury (Concussion). They really have no idea with players. He could be back in a couple games, or a couple months.
The fact that he's around the dressing room and acting normal is a good sign. I'd keep him out just to make sure we don't make the same mistake the penguins make.
In fact, when they think he's ready to go again... I'd sit him out another couple of games just to be sure.

Burrows on left foot pain from shot block: "Hopefully the swelling will go away. I got hit on the side of the heel, but it's just a bruise."

And stealing a candy from a shop is crime just like an armed hold up of that shop is crime. Getzlaf is closer the shoplifting a candy bar and Cooke's hit closer to armed hold up.
Burrows foot is swollen and is awaiting X-Ray results. Expected to play tomorrow though.

You're kidding me. I was going to go into how it is now infected with gangrene, and doctors will have to amputate, but its not a defenseman, so I'm assuming its just a break
wasn't it reported last year that Burrows would be a defensive fill in in case of emergency? this is getting freaking redonkulous.
That's the common speculation, and it was openly discussed by Shorthouse and Garret during the game where Ballard went down and Rome got 5+10, but I've never heard it confirmed anywhere officially.

I seem to remember one game last season where we literally running out of defensemen (because of injuries & a player thrown out of the game) and it was mentioned that Sammy was "the next person in line".
