Bieksa expected to play against Predators, sore foot notwithstanding

In fact, said Canucks assistant GM Lorne Henning, Bieksa is expected to play here on Thursday against the Predators despite taking a Nick Schultz slapshot on his foot in the first period of Tuesday’s 4-1 win in Minnesota.

“He’s a tough kid. He’s fine,”said Henning of Bieksa . . .

All cleared up.

Murph chimes in two minutes later:

sportsnetmurph Dan Murphy
Claude Noel on Oberg "Kept him out due to a transaction that may occur with the Canucks". To me, that sounds like Bieksa is not right.

...or that we unloaded another deadweight AHL defenceman on Doug Wilson. Hey, maybe we got Clowe this time!

They mentioned on Sportsnet connected that it's possible Bieksa may be gone long term. It was speculation at this point and we should hear more tomorrow but it does sound like O'Berg might just indeed get called up and play tomorrow night.

Now I hate to even do this but if Bieksa is indeed gone long term (I believe a broken foot is around 6 to 8 weeks) then that means we might just have more cap space to work with at the deadline.

It's not exactly a situation you hope for but if it's true that he's out long term then you wonder if Gillis might just make the most of this situation and use the potential extra cap space he could get by putting Bieksa on LTIR ($3.75m).

There's not a ton of name players available but it does give us a chance to add another top nine forward with a bigger salary IF Bieksa is indeed out until the playoffs.

Hopefully Bieksa isn't gone for long because the last thing you want is two defencemen coming back in a playoff series after not playing for 2 months.

Don Taylor just said on Connected that Bieksa's foot injury may be serious and that he may be out for a "significant period of time".

If Bieksa was out we would've already heard about Oberg getting the call-up.

Which we've heard may be possible. The call up wouldn't "officially" happen until tomorrow anyways.

Anyways, if it's true it's something serious then I have nothing else to say but...

(just to clarify this doesn't mean I'm giving up on the season or any bandwagon BS)

Wow if there's any truth to Bieksa being done for a "significant period of time." Healthy all season long and now we're losing d-man after d-man so consistently it's impressive while all the forwards remain unharmed. Just odd.

A publication put out at 8 p.m. PT (10 p.m. Nashville time) with the assistant GM claiming he's "fine," yet later on, somehow, news surfaces that there's a good chance it's incredibly serious? What else could they have discovered that late? I realize an article can take a couple of hours to write and copyedit, but it still seems odd they'd be releasing information that late on a day off.

Hopefully just another instance of Sportsnet failing?

Canucks Call up Oberg, looks like uncertainty around Bieksa but it doesn't look good with Oberg actually being called up.

http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Ca...239/story.html

Quote:
The Vancouver Canucks called up rookie Manitoba Moose d-man Evan Oberg Wednesday afternoon.

With Kevin Beiksa possibly out, the Canucks defence roster is getting slimmer; with Sami Salo, Aaron Rome and Christian Erhoff still on their feet. Chris Tanev and Yann Sauve were the latest call-ups prior to Oberg, but all three only have 13 games on NHL ice between them.

I'm hearing Bieksa is going to be out around 3 weeks with a fracture in his left foot. Not confirmed by team yet tho. Oberg on his way up.

That's completley ridiculous no. Bieksa out Oberg in? If that is for real and we win any games with that defence, I'll be shocked. This is some kind of black voodoo ********...

So, what the hell was Henning talking about then?
Did they ask him about Bieksa after he took his meds???

We need Dr. House to look after our D corps - sure, he'll mis-diagnose them the frist 3 times, but you better beleive he'll have them cured after the 4th.

"The Canucks announced today that the entire team has lupus, thus explaining the recent rash of injuries. Dr. House was able to make the diagnosis after three amputations, four deaths, one brain damaged patient, and three kidney transplants."

I feel like the movie Ghostbusters, that scene where they tell everyone to clear their mind so the evil lady can't create any monster to come destroy them. Except one guy didn't clear his mind. He thought of the StayPuft Marshmallow Man.

So all of us Canuck fans have cleared our minds about injuries, but there is one dude out there, thinking of new injuries for our defence to get, and lo and behold, it's happening.

So yeah, we need to find that guy. And stop him.

So it's Edler Bieksa Hamhuis Ballard Alberts in the press box and only Salo Erhoff left on the bench?

might as well just make Ehrhoff a healthy scratch until the end of the season so he doesn't get injured.
