No Oberg at Canucks skate. Bieksa only player missing. Saw him outside room with walking boot on left foot.

Unbelievable.

I don't get why they don't (didn't) sign Flood and call him up. At this point, I'd have to say they have to sign someone else too - Montreal just picked up Mara for a 5th, maybe Henry is available? From Habs posters, the guy is serviceable.

Because from what I've seen of Oberg in the pre-season, he's completely unqualified to play at this level. He was even a healthy scratch on the Moose for pete's sake. Was a deer in headlights in his callup last year.

By overplaying the remaining Dmen, you run the risk of further injuries. Whether this explains the rash of injuries I don't know. A more likely explanation would be that teams are putting a lot of pressure on our D (Anaheim, St. Louis, Minny) knowing our veterans are playing a lot of minutes and are tired (Ehrhoff, Bieksa), some are over their paygrade in icetime (Rome, who's been very solid, IMO), while the others are inexperienced - seems like its working for the opposition.

The side-effect from this additional forecheck pressure: more injuries.

Also may be time to play 4 forwards, 1 dman. Sounds crazy but might relieve some of the pressure.

Daniel Henrik Samuelsson
Burrows Salo

Raymond Kesler Tambellini
Ehrhoff Hansen

With Rome and Tanev being the 3rd pairing with the occasional cameo by Sauve.

Neither Burrows or Hansen are better defenseman than Sauve or even Oberg I imagine. Just because they're good NHL forwards doesn't make them even average defenseman.

It's funny watching a lot of people wanting Gillis to fritter away DP's for quick temp fixes on the back end.

I hope those people aren't the same ones who villify Nonis for doing exactly that in 05/06 when our D was decimated after the Olympics.

Honestly, I wish all of our best players could play 82+ Games a season. But this is bound to happen, especially to us. I rather this happen now, than in the 2nd Round of the Playoffs. We are a good enough team to win with 4 AHL D-men, Just with out offensive power. The only Player I'm concerned about as to his recovery, and making it back for the Playoffs.. Is Hamhuis. But by the looks of it, it seems like he'll be back in time?

Group hug? For us, fans? Imagine being the rooks. A 6 game home stand coming up and they'll be tasked with keeping the war machine going in front of the rabid Rogers Arena crowd!

"Unless, of course, my nine all-stars fall victim to nine separate misfortunes and are unable to play tomorrow. But that will never happen. Three misfortunes, that's possible. Seven misfortunates, there's an outside chance. But nine misfortunes? I'd like to see that!"

NIce.

That's what needs to happen here: Erhoff falling into a vortex in an amusement park funhouse, and Salo coming down with a case of Gigantism.

Well, if you look at the bright side... at least the veterans will be well rested for the playoffs!

But seriously... HOLY FU*K. In Vancouver, when it rains, it pours! Methinks Ehrhoff should be kept out now; obviously he's next in line. The guy's a beast when it comes to conditioning and durability, but I'm afraid not even he will be exempt from this curse.

And as for what the person several posts above said about not overloading the remaining veterans with minutes, I agree. Shouldn't we be spreading out the ice-time even more so as to prevent the veterans still remaining from getting hurt too? They'll probably get hurt just the same sooner or later anyway, but stacking up all the ice-time on them certainly can't help. Give more minutes to Tanev and Rome, see what you have and see if they can step up with the extra ice-time. We can't possibly go any worse than relying only on a few guys to play all the minutes, which would then exhaust them and render them ineffective anyway.

We also gotta keep the bigger picture in mind when we're doing this. Spread the ice-time out, and so what if we lose? We have such a big cushion on the other teams in our conference that it doesn't matter if we lose a few games. What's more important is that you don't lose your remaining vets long-term 'cos you never know what could happen. I'd rather sacrifice a few wins in return for keeping the boys fresh and not overworked.

Should have traded Bieksa while we still had the chance.

Sweatt : 2-4 weeks
Ballard: 2-3 weeks
Bieksa : 3 weeks
Alberts: 6-8 weeks
Edler : 8-10 weeks
Hamhuis: Out Indefinately

What a nightmare. In theory Sweatt, Ballard, and Bieksa could be back by early March or rather after 5 - 9 games. Hamhuis could be back within a week or 2 games in a best case scenario. This sucks... but by early March the Canucks could have a defense of:

Ehrhoff - Salo
Hamhuis - Bieksa
Rome - Tanev
Sweatt

I think Ballard will be ready by early March as well, but I'm not positive.
