Brad Richards

First off I can't believe I have to make this thread, had someone brought this up 2 days ago I would of jumped down their throat for spewing such nonsense. But now it seems we could use his services and may have the money to pay him. That being said what do you guys think it would take to get him here how much of an impact would he have and is it feasible?

Here's my attempt.

I don't want another big contract. Cap flexibility is key, and this would just make us as cap inflexible as we have been the past few years.

If BR was willing to do a 1 year win or go home contract at say 6.5M I'd trade happily trade Carle to do it.

Hartnell 4.2 - Briere 6.5 - B. Richards 6.5
JVR 1.655 - Giroux 3.75 - Voracek 2.5
Simmonds 2.0 - Schenn 3.11 - Versteeg 3.083
Powe .9 - Betts .7 - Nodl .9
Wellwood .58

Pronger 4.922 - Meszaros 4.0
Timonen 6.334 - Coburn 3.2
O'Donnell 1.3 - Gustavsson .9 (or Hamilton/Murphy)
Bartulis .6

Bryz 5.667
Emery .9

64.201M

It won't happen though.

I am as shocked as anyone about Richards leaving, but to put a positive spin on it:

Carter (5.27 through 2022) + M. Richards (5.57 through 2020)

for

Bryzgalov (5.66 throuh 2022) + B. Richards (9 years under 6mm?)

Can be argued (by some) as somewhat lateral, although Carter+M.Richards are younger.

But outside of that add:

Voracek, Shenn, Simmonds, 8th overall, 3rd 2011, 2nd 2012.

Makes it look like a lot of great assets coming for little, assuming the B. Richards could get done.

Trading Versteeg/Carle to get B. Richards and the Flyers come out on top short and long term. (I put B. Richards at 9 years because that is Homer's style).

Not sure about that

I have a feeling that Brad Richards was some kind of a plan B in case the Mike Richards for Schenn+Simmonds would not have panned out.

If we're going after Brad Richards, that means there are other roster moves that have to be made first. Guess the logical choice here would be Versteeg.

I think it's more likely that we will add either a 3rd line center or a solid winger in the 2.5-3M range. As for centers though, there aren't that many great ones out there as ufa's this year. Handzus is slowing down, Madden is a 4th line center these days, Belanger is nice but I'd like some more size, Reasoner is a player I like but I don't think he is a third line center on a cup contending team.
