Could Chicago be sellers?

If so, what would be the return for Patrick Sharp?

They will not sell.

They will buy. Even if they were 10 points out at the deadline, they're the Stanley Cup champions, and would buy to make themselves get into the playoffs.

Why would they sell? They are a goalie and maybe a top 6 forward away from being right back in the finals.

They're gonna be making the playoffs again this year I think, so I doubt they'd sell. They especially wouldn't sell a guy like Sharp, who is doing so well this year.

It's somewhat difficult to buy if a team has less than $700,000 in cap space.

If they are selling it'll be one of Hjalmarsson, Seabrook, or Campbell.

San Jose might come calling for Hjalmarsson? Can't imagine the return would be anything spectacular.

Chicago has 20 games after the trade deadline passes. Would imagine they would have to be at least 15 points out before the deadline if they were to consider selling.

If I am not mistaken, we cannot trade Hjalmarsson for a year because of the offer sheet.

And to OP, even if Hawks are sellers(which by all indications they aren't), Sharp is will be one of the last guys available unless its a massive overpayment. He is a great locker room leader, our leading goal getter and signed to a sweet sweet contract through next year.

We have a good goalie

Problem is our idiot coach keeps giving Turco chances for some unknown reason

Crawford 17-11-3 2.13 GAA / .921 Sv Pct 2 Shutouts (31 GP)
Turco 11-11-3 3.08 GAA / .897 Sv Pct 1 Shutout (28 GP)

And it is our bottom 6 and #6 D that needs upgrades

If Hawks continue to struggle and sell it will be a guy like Kopecky (Upcoming UFA having career year) who we would send off

Sharp is not going anywhere and we could get better value in offseason given the weak UFA forward class this year

It would start with one of your best players or yourbest prospect +.

So basically, nothing your team is willing to trade.

would love to see him in Car

something like

McBain, Boychuk or Bowman and White for Sharp and Campbell

clears Campbell's contract off of Chi's books to give them flexibility in the offseason

If we sell, you can overpay for Brouwer or you can go after Kopecky, Boynton and Stalberg... maybe you can get Turco if he waives his NMC

No way they're sellers. Just my opinion, but I really believe that at least 12 of the 15 teams in the Western Conference feel that they could win the cup if they just got into the playoffs.

-Edmonton is the only team for sure that we know will be sellers.
-Colorado, St. Louis, and Columbus probably have the next two weeks to prove to management that they can make a run towards the 8th seed...with likely two of those teams looking towards next year at the deadline (although I don't see any of them becoming full on sellers by Feb. 28th).
-Everyone else in the West is most likely going to push their chips in and prepare to fight for those final playoff spots. Vancouver and Detroit are definitely the best two teams in the West, but I can see just about any of the 8 teams that manage to get into the playoffs having enough manpower to take a run at the Conference Finals.

So Tomas Kaberle is going to waive his NTC to: a.) Go to a team in the West, and b.) go to a team that is selling because they're not going to be in the playoffs?

This makes so little sense on so many levels, I thought it was a joke...but then you reinforced it with an explanation.

Campbell is roughly equal to Kaberle in terms of overall game but his contract obviously makes that portion of the deal a win for Chicago.

That makes the rest of the deal: Patrick Sharp for MacArthur, Kadri, a 2nd and roughly 2 million in cap relief (assuming Kaberle re-signs for 5/yr)

That doesn't strike me as the type of return that's going to land Sharpie.

Even if they were going to be sellers (which they're not, but for the sake of discussion, we'll pretend that they are) they're going to sell guys like Kopecky or Brouwer, not a guy like Sharp. Even if they miss the playoffs this year, the cap troubles are going to be behind them and they'll simply look to retool this offseason and make another run. They aren't going to panic and blow it up.

I could possibly see them trying to parlay Seabrook into a bit more defensive depth depending on what sort of signs they are getting from his agent. The return would be significant and it could help the Hawks balance salary a bit more. That being said, I still wouldn't classify them as 'sellers' because they won't be making rebuilding type moves at all.

Pretty much what these hawks fans are saying. Also, no way in hell do we trade with the Sharks especially after the s*** they pulled on us last offseason.

Chicago isn't selling. And they aren't trading Patrick Sharp on pace for 70 points. And they're not trading Seabrook just because he's an RFA, they'll deal with that in the off season. They aren't going to KEEP losing players like Byfuglien, Versteeg and Ladd because of cap issues.

If they trade away good players at the deadline, it means they're giving up on the season. They will be fighting to get into the playoffs all the way until April. And they are actually good enough to get in and do damage, especially if they get to play Vancouver in the first round.
