Trade Ennis?

If Staff gets a new deal, that's 3 of 4 top wing spots locked up for the next few years. With Adam, Kassian, Gerbe, Byron, in the pipe. As well as veteran 2nd line wingers being among the easiest hole to fill thru FA.

Dont get all emotional.

Ennis may be our best trade chip towards landing that top 6 center

I wouldn't consider trading him at this point, but he is frustrating to watch at times. I really hope he doesn't end up like they typical underachieving Sabres winger.

Why? What if you got back a 25 yr old #2 center with upside?

That's the only thing I'd package him in a trade for.

Good point. you have to give up something to get something, and it's wishful thinking to assume we can unload overpaid stiffs like Connolly and Hecht in exchange for great players. But as long as Darcy is GM, I doubt any of the better recent draft picks get moved. We all know how in love he is with his players. Not to mention they are so much cheaper to keep around at this stage of their careers. On the other hand, when you look at Byron, Gerbe, Roy, and Ennis as a group, that's a lot of very little guys on one NHL team. I could see one of the young kids getting moved for that reason.

Because I just don't think anyone would trade that for Ennis.

Agreed completely. Heck, if the right defenseman became available (someone to pair with Myers for a while)....that'd be fine with me too.

But yeah, Ennis right now is our best trade chip for a top 6 center.

I don't think anyone wants to lose him, but a top 6 center would be tough to pass up.

I'd rather see them trade Stafford while his value is at it's highest than see them trade Ennis. That's if they had to trade one for a center.

The Sabres have lost a lot of speed since the 06-07' team. Speed adds a much needed dynamic to their offense. Ennis also seems to be a more self-motivated player. Although the sample sizes are much different.

I'd be fine if both are kept and they make a smaller deal for a center.

If it helps them land a top 6 center, sure. Otherwise, I'd definitely keep him. It's only his first full NHL season and he's on pace for about 50 points. His potential is way too high to be trading him in pretty much any other deal.

If Ennis could be flipped in a Wolski/Mueller-esque deal for a young #2 center, I think that would be great for us.

Any chance the Blues give us Berglund for Ennis??

Ennis is 21. Its rare you will see a late 1st round forward playing amazingly at this point. Ennis has already shown that he can play a strong game he just needs to work on consistency. I would trade Stafford before Ennis because Ennis has more years to play with and is cheaper at this point, but realistically Stafford and Ennis should both be on the Sabres for a long time

The only center I'd trade/package Ennis for is Brad Richards, and that's assuming he'd re-sign in Buffalo for at least the next 3 or 4 years.

If we acquired Berglund, I'd trade Pominville and Hecht, and any of the other slackers we call "top 6 forwards". There's no way I'd want that supporting cast to surround Berglund while trying to further his development.

I'd be open to it, but I need to see names of the player(s) coming back before I commit one way or the other. I probably don't trade him for Berglund because I think Ennis has a higher ceiling.

I'm much more willing to look at dealing Luke Adam in a package for Weiss or a Vermette-type center.

Myers is a RH defenseman. If you're saying you want more depth on the Right Side, fine. But I'm not trading Ennis for a #3 defenseman. #1 center with upside? I would definitely listen to offers.

Ta,
I think by right he meant correct, not necessarily the side the hypothetical blue liner would play on.

I'm okay with this idea as well. If you want to keep Stafford b/c he's cresting then some other asset needs to be considered to bring in the right center. If it's Ennis or Adam or a couple of Defense-prospects (Pysyk, McNabb) then I think you have to look at it.

I like Ennis, but if moving him brings in a center to play with Vanek, I'm all for it.

I'm confused....

So most of you would be happy to trade Stafford, and now Adam but you are having a hard time trading Ennis????

Have you been watching the Sabres the last few years....we are a bunch of midgets! I don't want to see Ennis go but we are back to pick 2 and trade the rest. Last year we had Kennedy, now we are including Byron, who's another midget.

Would you like the Sabres to switch their colors to more of a brighter blue and call themselves the SMURFS???????

Come on, Adam is pretty much the only center in the pipe line, and a guy with size. I'm sure as heck that Pegual has come out and said he likes the Broad Street Bully days, and will bring an element of size and toughness to this team.

I put Ennis on the 2nd short list, only to be dealt for quality in return. Not untouchable but he isn't the sweetner. The guy has got talent. This team needs to be bigger.
