That is one guy I have a hard time reading. Has good size and skating ability and plays solid, he's just always been part of a losing team year after year so that makes me wonder. At 4.5.... that's a high price but for Spacek+ I would hope Montreal dances again with the blues.

Akost+weber for Kaberle rumor is total garbage

First, MTL gets washed up and secondly, TML doesn't need another winger and another D. If a trade like this is done, Burke will toss this return for another one

I was watching Phillips this afternoon...I think people are making too much of his +-, he can still play and could upgrade our top 4. I guess it depends on the cost. He's a guy I would maybe give a bit more for then signing him to a 2-3 year extension if he was willing...3 years 10-11 mil.

You're comparing two very different looking Atlanta teams.
Oh I'm not comparing the teams at all. The Habs traded what? 10 captains in a row or something ridiculous like that? They weren't always out of the playoffs. There are plenty of other examples, I'm sure.

But again, I'm not suggesting in any way, shape or form, that the Thrashers would trade him. I'm simply saying that his name has come up and as mentioned early in the blog, I'm not going into the legitimacy of rumours. We take it or leave it and that, regardless of the origin.

Habs don't need size they need average sized players who are actually tough. Hall Gill is one of the biggest players around but he is soft as whip cream. Don't need that kind of cowardice.

EDIT: wtf, why is Dallas Dave blocked? Yet Eklund's garbage is allowed.
That makes no sense for Montreal. Weber has the potential to be a Kaberle type player in a year or two. He is already leaps and bounds better than he was last year and getting better. Adding Kostitsyn to this just makes it one of the most lobsided trades I have heard of recently. Change Kaberle to Regher and I could see it because he has everything we need, the ability to play big minutes, grit and size. Kaberle can do none of those things. He is most effective when he is kept under 20 minutes per game and isn't very physical.

I'm no insider; but I would have to call this one bunk.

Mr. Kovalev with 3 points today.

I'm still of the opinion that this would be a fantastic, low risk move.

He can be had for cheap (likely just a draft pick) and if he comes back motivated for the playoffs, he could be an interesting "x-factor" come playoff time.

If he's lazy/uneffective, oh well, he's a UFA at the end of the season.

Gotta love Garioch....

OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports Senators veterans like Chris Phillips, Jarkko Ruutu and Chris Neil are likely next to be shipped out as management continues its rebuilding plan. Defenseman Filip Kuba has also attracted interest. Garrioch doubts there’ll be takers for Alex Kovalev. He claims the Canadiens, Bruins, Sharks and Ducks are interested in Phillips but feels Chris Campoli might be a better fit for the Sharks. If the Senators make a trade with Montreal they’ll want Max Pacioretty as part of the return, while the Bruins would probably prefer a puck-moving defenseman, which Phillips isn’t. The Senators are also getting lots of interest in youngsters Erik Karlsson and winger Nick Foligno but they’re not available.

Like Montreal would move MaxPAc for anything Ottawa has on that ugly roster!

While I like Kaberle. I heard on CKAC from a guy that works on RDS. That Burke wants a good established player, a good prospect and a high end pick. It's a rumour as far as I'm concerned. But he did mention that it was a discussion between Burke and NYR. So, take it for what it is... For that much, I'd rather flip em the bird, no way I owuld give that much.

They'll be lucky to get a 1st. A 2nd is more likely. Garrioch's hockey knowledge is minimal.

I would consider that if Kaberle agrees before hand to resign with us.
Signed and traded.

LOL they can have a contest of terrible shooting opportunities. Gomez can count how many times he hits the goalie's chest and Kovalev how many times he puts it over the net and against the back glass. They can also see who can hold on to the puck the longest in the offensive zone without creating anything offensively.

No way I would trade Weber for any rental. He has me convinced he will be a very good puck moving top 4 guy that's still responsible defebnsively...Rafalski Visnovsky Timonen Enstrom are all smaller guys taht are very good top guys.

Apparently Chris Stewart and Liles were scratched and left on the bench tonight, that would be a team changing trade!

I have a feeling LA is out to get a top line forward, and they offered a big package to Colorado. I wouldn't be surprised at all.

If the asking price for Phillips is Patches, then we should forget about Phillips, and look for a veteran D-man elsewhere. Patches should definitely be an untouchable for us.

I still think that the Habs should try to get, in order:
  1. A Top 6 powerforward
  2. A bottom 6 guy who can play and fight, ala Clarkson, Neil, Konopka...
  3. A veteran punishing defenseman
