This is truly a tragedy for the Montreal Hip-Hop scene. The Hip-Hop scene is in pretty bad shape here because there's no originality - or so little- coming out of Montreal. Bad News Brown was one of those original artists who was able to get recognition for his craft. For that he will be sorely missed. He really was a stand-up guy as well. I had the chance of meeting him once or twice and I have nothing but good things to say about him.
This is a huge loss to not only the hip hop scene in Montreal but the whole music scene in general, Bad News Brown was easily one of the most talented artists representing this city. He was a unique talent who I truly thought would be making noise for the city for a long time to come.
The first hip hop show I saw was Talib Kweli at the Medley in '03, Bad News opened the show and he absolutely KILLED IT. He could spit and his harmonica skills were simply incredible. Seeing such a great talent from this city lose their life in such a terrible way is truly devistating, my prayers go out to his family especially his daughter.
