Actually, I think the thought amongst Leaf fans was 50/50.

I for one wouldn't have cared if JFJ let them walk... especially with the CBA.

Too much for Roberts, but they're still decent players.

I think the Leafs paid more for them to sign 1-year deals.

Oh my, the Leafs answer to building a winner is to bring back the same team that lost the year before...

Awesome, these two led our team all year long, Nieuwendyk adds a lot to out team with faceoffs scoring, being a 2nd liner center to Sundin, SKY Line, and Mentoring Stajan, and Roberts, well the guy is heart.

There isn't a contender in the league that wouldn't want these two type of players on their roster.

That sums it up... Having Joe and Gary on any lineup only makes them stronger.

Good deal for the Leafs. A bit pricey perhaps but they are only signed for one year. And a good deal for Roberts and Nieuwendyk. Rumour was that if they couldn't sign with the Leafs they would want to go to another team together. And it would be hard to find another team taking both for $6.75 million IMO.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Belfour.

These were two of the most important players last year.

Nieuwendyk was our best skater in the playoffs and Roberts was amazing.

I'm reasonably pleased.

Nieuwy at 3M is perfectly reasonable.
I wass hope for Roberts to take 1M pay cut, so he's still slightly overpaid but it's better. I had mixed feelings on re-signing Roberts, but if we wanted Niuwendyk, then Roberts wsas pretty much a must as they've clearly decided they go together.
Both 1yr deals which is good.

I'm very glad to see Nieuwy returned.

Past their prime?

Roberts: 72 games, 28 goals, 20 assists, 48 points
Nieuwendyk: 64 games, 22 goals, 28 assists, 50 points

They would be 2 and 3 on Calgary in scoring.

Who cares where they would be on the Flames scoring, where was Toronto in June playing golf, where was Calgary playing for Stanley Cup title. So your stastics prove nothing. These are too old players who cant realize there time is done, leave the game and let the young blood come in. This is exactly why Toronto will never win a Stanley Cup, you cannot take a bunch of nursing home residents to the playoffs.

If these players were producing these same numbers and had the same injury problems at age 28 no one would say anything, in fact they'd be hailed as excellent players. However because they are old, it makes them worse than a 30 year old who would have the same impact? Get real and take your head out of the fetid sewage you have it stuck in.
