Sens (Spezza+) - Kings (no Schenn)

The LA system is ridiculously deep in prospects such that in a few years time under the cap system they will hit the BlackHawks wall. To forestall that here's a quantity for quality deal:

To LA: Spezza, Kovalev and Ruutu (only Spezza remains after this season)

To Ottawa: Voynov, Deslauriers, Jones, Toffoli, and Clifford - any one of these can be taken out and replaced with a 2011 1st (the keep your fav prospect not named Schenn option).

Note this trade still leaves the Kings with a bunch of other non-Schenn prospects. Given the age of the core Kings team now I don't see how another dozen or more players can fit in the next three years, and at some point one or more quantity for quality trades will be necessary. The trade above assumes a Pens type cap approach - strength down the middle with 3 #1Cs, strong D, etc.

The salary cap says no. And Dean Lombardi says no. And I say no. And so do most Kings fans.

It actually says yes right now, because the Kings would just be paying the remaining season cap for these players, and next year there are one or more UFAs that don't need to be resigned.

Pretty much. Ottawa is content in keeping Spezza, and the Kings don't feel like Spezza is the guy to put them over the top.

At the VERY least put Moller in the deal.

We aren't going into next year with Regin and Kelly as our scoring centers.

It's a no all around. No ones touching Spezza without a very enticing young center to start. No sense trading him at this low point...the fans that watch him every night know it'd be a mistake at this point.

I doubt Murray moves Spezza to LA unless it involves Schenn coming to Ottawa.

Awful for the Sens. Besides Murray is on record saying that Spezza will not be traded this year. Sorry Kings fan, you'll have to find a centre somewhere else.

Quality does not equal quantity. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Didnt he say that on record about Fisher too?! As a Kings fan I hope to go we wouldnt do this. Spezza is a good player, but we need a winger. Ive always liked Kovalev, but Ruutu does nothing for us. Well maybe he does, but I dont want him and Kovalev at the price of a few more prospects who at this point could have higher ceilings.

I don't get all this noise about the Kings going after a center. We REALLY don't need one. We have Lokti who is showing flashes of brilliance on the ice and Schenn in the wings for next year. If we trade for a center, another one will have to be leaving LA and it will be a center who only has one year left on his contract.

I don't remember the exact wording of the article but it was something to the effect of Murray clarifying that Fisher did not have a no trade clause and that he (Fisher) had no desire to be traded.

Murray was just on Hockey Night in Canada stating that Spezza, Karlsson and Alfie were all players that he would not be trading. Of course, if the right deal comes along, anyone is available.

Kovalev can probably be had for a 3rd rounder. I don't imagine that he'll be traded before the deadline day. His salary is big enough that 2 weeks can make a difference.

Why would the Senators, who aren't in the playoffs, trade their best player to a team who isn't in the playoffs either for their spare parts when that team doesn't need a center?

Proposal is not good at all as has been voiced throughout the thread. Ottawa doesn't want to move Spezza, LA likely doesn't want to get Spezza either.

Start proposal over and get Moller to Ottawa. Much more realistic.

Sigh, Spezza is not for trade. How many times do we have to beat this to death?

Spezza > Bucket full of junk. No reason for Ottawa to make this trade.

lol @ calling that a bucket of junk. Learn about the prospects involved, or feel free to just continue displaying your ignorance.

Neither team does this trade.

I can't imagine either team doing this deal. It's my opinion that L.A in need of wingers who can consistently put up points... not a center like Spezza. They've already got Kopitar.

Makes no sense for L.A unless they wana copy what the Penguins are doing.
