Phil Kessel vs Michael Grabner

Let's put everything aside, don't think about draft position, team they play for, how much they make $$$, the fact one was an all star and the other was a rookie all star, or the fact one cost Seguin++ and the other was a waiver pick up. Just honestly put all else aside and vote.

Who would you rather have going forward out of the two (rather streaky) skilled players? They are easily in the same conversation here.

Haven't voted yet but I could see how Kessel could have an edge. But the "going foward" part throws it all out of wack. Phil's quasi-40 goal season seems like a distant past.

DDH has had 6 points in his last 3 games. Pretty sure he is on the same level as Crosby now

I'll take the 30+ goal scorer, despite his defensive struggles at times. (Kessel)

This is a really bad time to put Kessel in a poll; and of all players Grabner.

Kessel. 2 30+ goals seasons as a 21-23 year old.

If Grabner beats Kessel's career high playing on the NYI 2nd and 3rd line, then Kessel officially doesn't have the "linemates" excuse anymore haha. But ya I take Kessel.

Kessel, easily.

Grabner is fast and gets a lot of breakaways, but he's playing out of his mind at the second in high scoring affairs.

See, that's what I would think. I fully expect Grabner to go 15+ without a goal but then I argue that that's no different than Kessel himself.

Hey now! Kessel's current drought is only 14 games!

I dislike Kessel and the Leafs but this poll isn't close. Kessel's skill is too much to ignore, in a comparison of two purely offensive players.

I really find it sad Kessel is being ruined in Toronto. He's a guy you want to keep as far from the spotlight as possible, but here they have him in the biggest spotlight in hockey, made worse by what it took to acquire him. It's just an awful match.

shouldn't that factor into the poll then? regardless of team if he's being "ruined" does that mean his "future value" takes a hit?

Both are uni-dimensional players who if they are not scoring are not really doing much for their respective teams. What is interesting is their respective +/- ratings.

Obviously Kessel has more hype and pedigre. Both players have had their heart questioned at times and both are streaky as h*ll but IF Kessel doesn't start scoring again, then his entire reason for being in the NHL goes out the window. Same with Grabner if he doesn't keep scoring.

Neither are going to win you a Selke or lead a team in hits, takeaways or similar. Grabner's +/- is, as above, a unique differentiator this year and perhaps what makes this thread more intriguing.

I think it's pretty clear by this point that neither of them have "it". Neither will be legitimate first line players but they still can bring some useful scoring and skill to their respective teams.

I'm an Isles fan. And I hate the Leafs. And I don't really like Kessel.

But I still say Kessel. Let Grabner continue to play well this year, and play well next year, before putting him in a poll against a 2-time 30 goal scorer.

Grabner has had an amazing run for the past 14 games, scoring 15 goals. Heck, scoring half as many goals would be a very good stretch. But still, it is just 14 games. Probably the greatest stretch he will have in his career. When he comes back to Earth, we will see how good he really is. Is he a 40 goal scorer? 20? Who knows.

Player A: 56 games, 19:41 ATOI, 19 goals, -19 (2nd worst on his team)
Player B: 52 games, 14:04 ATOI, 24 goals, +10 (best on his team)

How many times are we going to see polls that are Kessel vs who is hot right now. Simply retarded.
