I like Ward, but I don't see a fit in Montreal right now. Our bottom-six is already pretty crowded with capable PKers as it is. I still think defense should be our top priority but if we do add another fourth liner, it would probably have to be a fighter.

Again its fair value, but doesn't work for the Habs. We will certainly be looking to add a veteran D man, preferably one with grit. O'Brien would be a key piece of the proposed deal for us.

He's our 6th dman. Could be a lot better if he is given some ice time.

I would do it. But what would it take to include SOB? We really need a roster player/d-man o replace Spacek's minutes. Otherwise we are pooched. I would much prefer Blum over Sulzer.

Value-wise, I would do it in a heartbeat. In the real world, I'm not sure the Canadiens can afford to get immediately weaker on defense though. Spacek can certainly be brutal at times but he's been solid lately and was very good for us last year in the playoffs.

How about:

AK + Spacek + Kristo = Dumont + Blum + SOB

AK makes the most sense, I agree. If they are happy with SK, I would not doubt at all that they would be interested in his underachieving but far more talented brother.

BUT.

J-P Dumont isn't part of the equation for Montreal. There's no way they will (i hope to god) take on a player with another year at 4 mill who is at his age, injury history and current level of play. That's not even considering that you are giving up a 26 year old with size, skating and great hands, even if he's inconsistent.

AK would fetch far more than that, and more than that and Sulzer as well. Sulzer does not have the value of a roster player in return. If he's the target it's for a mid-pick or mid-level prospect.

SOB might also be of interest. But he's a UFA and again, AK being a RFA means he has way more value.

If AK is involved it would HAVE to be more like Franson. I'm not saying it's a 1-1 deal, but i think that it becomes in the same ballpark.

The other, more shocking, option would be a blockbuster for Shea Weber (Montreal obviously adding a heck of a lot more). But before the Preds fans get upset with me I agree he's not going anywhere and that is HIGHLY unlikely unless there is some sort of hush-hush issue behind the scenes we are unaware of.

AK
Spacek
conditional pick (based on nashville's playoff performance and AK resigning with nashville)

for

Dumont
O'brien
pickard
2nd rounder (nashville's)

I think that is fair

I like the idea of a:

Spacek + AK for Dumont + SOB trade. The Preds get some experience on the blueline. They get an underperforming AK who still has potential (26 years old). Habs would be hoping that Dumont rebounds from a miserable season. They get a big, tough stay at home d-man which we are sorely needing. Its a win-win.

Preds have the cap-space to absorb the extra capspace. Spacek's contract has 1 more year it (as does Dumont's).
If they take Spacek back and his extra year than i'd be more ok with risking it on Dumont.

But SOB is a UFA this year. SO I still think Nashville needs to add. Otherwise we might be giving up AK for Dumont, which i think is a terrible deal.

Value wise, its all right.

But maybe we should keep Spacek since he has contract next year. We only have Weber, Subban, Gorges for next year. All other are UFA.

How is Montreal on defencemen prospects? We have quite a few extra. Charles-Olivier Roussel would be a nice piece.

I liked him at the draft but his stats have really fallen off this year? Habs may take a flyer on him as a throw-in though. Give Roussel to us for taking Dumont?

I would rather give you blum simply because he has been lost in the shuffle in Nashville but is still pretty darn good. I want to see him actually play somewhere and have a great career.... 32 points in 51 games is pretty solid.

I agree that is fair. AK will be a RFA so he has no choice but to re-sign.

Doubt it, Montreals biggest hole on there PK is on D (Gorges) and they have a pretty strong PK as is. If a deal materializes, it will likely be around a D-man.

It'd a blockbuster deal around Hornqvist and Kostitsyn. Not straight up Hornqvist is the better all around player.

I would see a deal like that

To Nashville
Andrei Kostitsyn
Yannick weber
1st pick
Kristo

To Montreal
Hornqvist
Franson

Don't like the fact of trading for an aging Dumont whose better years are behind him whereas Kostitsyn is entering his prime.

I like Hornqvist he would be a nice fit in montreal always in front of the net.

I would do that trade as well.

AK for Dumont + Blum.

Probably a more likely trade scenario. However i can see the Habs having interest in Franson/SOB. They would satisfy our greatest need. Dumont does not add anything to the equation if AK goes the other way.

From a Montreal perspective...done! Habs could turn around and deal that 2nd with change for Phillips.

Pacioretty-Plekanec-Gionta
Cammalleri-Desharnais-Dumont
Pouliot-Gomez-Darche
Moen-Halpern-White

Hamrlik-Wisniewski
Gill-Subban
O'Brien-Phillips
