Dustin Byfuglien re-signs in Atlanta for 5 more years @ $5m. Pricey, he better keep playing as well offensively as he had at the start of the year or it will be a huge overpayment, he can barely play defence.

(And he has 2 points in his last 16 games.)

5.2 actually. Pretty steep but it's probably important for the Thrashers to retain a "big name" player after moving Hossa and Kovalchuk.

They just have to hope his first 40 games weren't a hot streak and that he learns to play defence.

Thrashers aren't going to be pushing up to the cap anytime soon so they can afford to overpay a player or two. I see this more from a business standpoint. Byfuglien seems to be a player that has helped the Thrashers more than just in the game. No doubt he'll need to rekindle that fire he had in the first half of the season but I think there are other things he brings to that organization.

But the best part is he isn't coming back to the West anytime soon and I doubt we'll ever play the Thrashers in the playoffs. Then again crazier things have happened and Atlanta moving to Winnipeg probably isn't that out of the question.

Can they? It's not like they're making a whole lot of money... or are they? I don't actually know what their ownership situation is.

They aren't, they're losing money. I don't know the exact figures but I think it's around $25m a year.

Anyone else hoping Calgary makes it in?

Sure beats having to play Chicago or LA

It has been rumoured that Atlanta Spirit LLC is trying to sell the team despite denials to the contrary.

Not just are they losing money but the ownership group is in the middle of a lawsuit against the law firm that drew up the contract when they bought out their previous partner. I wonder who upstairs had the pull to authorize a signing like that.

Looks like the contract is back loaded. Guessing Thrashers are hoping they turn things around businesswise in the first couple of years. If not they could move him to a team that has deep pockets.

I want CGY to make it in but I would love to play LA too. I really like the Kings and always have so I'd love to see a rivalry between the two teams.

It'll have to be second round though since they need to knock out DET first

I'm not sure about that. If anything I think his value definately should be around that $4.5m to $5.0 range.

Byfuglien is on pace for 60 point season and he's leading his team in points.

Ehrhoff is on pace for a 49 point season and his career high is 44 points.

I think if we're lucky we get Ehrhoff signed to around $4.5m per season. If not then it should be around $5.0m per season.

If Ehrhoff wants to hit a home run, he'll be playing for a fringe playoff team at best.

From what I've seen, Byfuglien should sign over half that contract to Enstrom.

Ehrhoff isn't 6'5" and doesn't have experience playing as a power forward on top of being a D-man.

Looks like someone tried to fool us on the Proposals forum by creating a fake twitter account.

I knew it was fake as soon as it said that Kaberle was actually traded.

Tim Thomas' stats are rapidly plummeting, down to .938 Sv% after tonight's game.

He doesn't do so well playing more than 55 games a season. He's already up to 41 games, I'm sure fatigue is starting to play a factor.

He's still going to have to be really bad for his stats to come back to the pack.
