Nikolai Khabibulin to Philadelphia

Khabibulin is making 3.75M for the next 2 years. I think he will be able to turn his season around if he gets a fresh start somewhere else. With Philly well on their way to being Stanley Cup favorites, a veteran goaltender like Khabibulin along with Bobrovsky might be able to get to take them to the top.

I think a deal like this could work.

To

Leighton/Boucher, Coburn/Meszaros + 5th round pick

To

Khabibulin, Foster/Strudwick + 7th round pick

Thoughts?

The flyers don't want your scrub goalie.

no thanks. No one would touch Khabi's 35+ contract

Ugh, come on, stop making us look bad. The Flyers don't want Habby, no one does frankly.

I like how the Oilers get rid of
-Khabibulin: a goalie who hasn't won in 14 games and is overpaid
-Strudwick: a defenceman who can't get into the lineup because at this point he's just not an NHLer
-Foster: an offensive defenceman who has been a major disappointment in Edmonton this year

and Philly sends
-Leighton/Boucher: goalies who have arguably been better than Khabby and much cheaper
-Coburn/Meszaros: top 4 defencemen who are having, respectively, an okay and an excellent season
-5th round pick: which has more value, arguably, than anything coming back from Edmonton, not to mention the goalie and d-man

Why would the Flyers downgrade in goal?

When was the last time Bulin won? Philly doesn't do it, they get a downgrade to every player/pick they give up in this deal.

I'll have one more try to get the value right then, haha.

To

Leighton/Boucher, Coburn/Meszaros, + 6th round pick

To

Khabibulin, Smid, + 3rd round pick

STOP NOW, no deal you can dream up will make sense for either team.

It makes more sense for the Oilers to just LIVE with Habby's contract, because it isn't unbearable, and building smartly. If you're going to move Smid, if you're the Oilers, you aren't doing it so "you can dump someone" your doing as part of a package to get better value back.

There's three steps you should taken when making a trade proposal.

Does the other team want him?
Does the other team need him?
Can the other team afford him?

Khabibulin is a No, No and another No there.

Alright, sheesh you guys. Didn't know Khabibulin was THAT bad. I just thought Khabibulin could be insurance if Bobrovsky doesn't perform as expected during the playoffs.

Terrible trade..

Flyers are not making a push for a goalie..

They are fine with Bob/Boucher.

Habby hasn't won a game in 14 starts, he's being passed by Dubnyk. Add to that they rode garbage goaltending to the finals last year, Bob is actually competent, I imagine the Flyers are more then happy to ride him, and go to Boucher if need be.

Or if they need "insurance" in the backup tending position, there are better options, Jose Theodore comes to mind.
