On Movie Central in Canada and Showtime in the U.S.
Found an old thread about this series from 2006 but it was apparently a British version I hadn't heard of. This is about the new Americanized version that began last night in America and tonight in Canada.
Premise
The series follows the dysfunctional family of Frank Gallagher, a single father of six children. While he spends his days drunk, his kids learn to take care of themselves.
Cast
William H. Macy as Frank Gallagher
Emmy Rossum as Fiona Gallagher
Joan Cusack as Sheila
Justin Chatwin as Steve
Cameron Monaghan as Ian Gallagher
Emma Kenney as Debbie Gallagher
Ethan Cutkosky as Carl Gallagher
Jeremy Allen White as Phillip "Lip" Gallagher
Laura Slade Wiggins as Karen
Shanola Hampton as Veronica
Steve Howey as Kev
Tyler Jacob Moore as Tony
Jane Levy as Mandy
The pilot episode was good but not spectacular and was mainly an introduction to the characters. Macy didn't get much screen time at all and half of what he did get was him passed out on the floor; the other half was him playing a degenerate father very well. There were a couple funny moments and a couple touching moments. Also, Emmy Rossum as Macy's daughter, Fiona, is hot.
Improvement over last week's pilot episode. The characters are developing well and this series is getting pretty damn funny.
William Macy's character wakes up in jail in Canada....
"How the hell did I end up in Canada! The whole country's a bunch of parka-wearing, draft-dodging, chicken-***** who didn't have the balls to stay home and fight the Viet Cong and preserve the American way of life! No snow -- at the Winter Olympics!? What the hell was that?!"
i think its ok, i have never seen the british version though.
The British version is really dark. The Showtime version, is amusinglly tongue-in-cheek with sex thrown in. In the British version, people die....sometimes quite horrifically ie: locked in a storage-shed that's doused in gas, and ignited.

Well, with the Shopkeepers practice shooting in the last EP things could start getting ugly.
I love this show, it's highly entertaining and it's a little more mature which is what I like about it. I don't mind all those primetime comedies, but once in a while I like to watch a show that's a bit more intense.
Anyway, as of now my sunday line-up for shows is Top Gear, Shameless, Californication and sometimes Family Guy. I can't wait for True Blood to come back too.
Trying to be into this, what's Joan Cusack's deal?
She has agoraphobia or something similar.
I like the show.
Didn't like the whole Macy-Cusack deal and how fast it all happened. Little too fake for me.
The only thing that I really don't like about the show is that it makes me feel sad . They are just so trashy. Also Rossum is annoying me, her stupid facial expressions just turn me off.
Did she lose weight since the Day After Tomorrow? Because I remember her looking much more adorable. Although, I'm fully aware that's not her purpose here.

I think so. She sang the national anthem at the inaugural game at the Prudential Center. She was wearing a Devils jersey, which for me was better than her nudity. She's the type of girl I'd bring home to meet ma.

Ah yes, I agree. As opposed to being just a hot girl, you would rather take her out to dinner and treat her nice.
Didn't even realize that was Joan Cusack in the show. Her character is a tad bit annoying. I like the premise but every show seems to follow the same pattern. The family/friend pull together to get out of some giant mess.
