Andy Greene?

What happens to this guy?

Will he be traded at the deadline, and if he isn't, he's a free agent at the end of this year. Do the Devs re-sign him or does he go elsewhere? What kind of contract would he get?

Whatever team losses out on Kaberle then Phillips then McCabe will get this guy.

He is this years Joe Corvo.

My guess is he gets a Jordan Leopold type contract in the 3 million range.

NJ will re-sign him... He's young, therefore has plenty of years left in the tank. Although he hasn't performed up to expectations, he will be part of the franchise for another couple of years or so.

If I were to guess, I see him re-upping for another 3yrs @ $3m per.

No way NJ invests that much.

I think Greene is a good player but I also think he's a system player. I think any team offering him 3 mil per would be a mistake, even if it's the Devils. Ideally we'd like to re-sign him for 2-3 years at 2m per. I don't expect him to be traded but I have a feeling that a team is going to really overpay him with a contract in the offseason. I can see Boston being that team. I know their fans are very high on him.

To tell you the truth, I think Lou will let Greene walk if he demands upwards of $1.5M. He's a great system type of player, he's been playing well of late, but he's just not worth that much investment by the Devils. He can go to a perennial bottom-5 team to make that kind of cash.

Lou Lamoriello is not Cliff Fletcher.

It's possible he gets moved this year.

Kaberle is going through a split at home and doesn't want to leave his kids, he'll probably stay in Toronto purely for personal reasons and try to remain there because his family loves it there.

Philips will eliminate a lot of teams since the asking price will be high.

McCabe has already said he wants to stay with Florida and help them win.

So yeah Greene is likely to move, Devils need everyone in front of them to crash and burn if they want to get into a playoff position.

Greene to SJ.

I thought that Greene was the Devil's top Dman? Why wouldn't you sign him for more than $1.5?

Probably is related to our experience with Johnny Oduya. Oduya ate a ton of minutes but didn't provide a ton of offense. At 600K, he was a great bargain. Then to keep him off the free agent market, the Devils signed him for 3.5 million a year. He could still eat a ton of minutes, but now the lack of offense was an issue at that price tag.

I guess our best D man by definition is Volchenkov but Andy provides the most offence... which at the end of the day isn't a lot.

He isn't worth much.

You misunderstand me. He might get that much, that's very well possible, but if he does it won't be from New Jersey.

I would give Greene 2.5 - 3 mill. Sure he carries some risk like Oduya did, but 30 point+, 2 way defense men aren't too easy to find discounted in the NHL.

He will go some where for under 2 million. Tad overrated on these boards.

I never see anyone talking about him on these boards, especially any high praise.

He's still a risk in my eyes. Under a tight system like Julien, I think he could be great but if you were to put him on Washington last season, he'd be a disaster.

I'm not completely sold yet but I would like to see him back with the Devils, especially if Lemaire is around next season.

However, if a team offers a 2nd...

The only problem is that the Devils should be trying to add more puck movers, not get rid of them.

I see him going FA and signing a short term contract (1-2 years) with a relatively random club.

This is funny, I was just thinking about Greene today and whether he would be available at the deadline. Canucks might take some interest in him if the Hamhuis injury develops into something more serious or long term. A bit nervous about his play in his own end though, how has he been this year? Maybe even an Arnott&Greene package deal?

Greene's improved a lot under Lemaire.

Like pretty much every Devil, Greene's been a lot better since Lemaire came back. His +/- is starting to recover. With the injuries on defense in the beginning of the season, MacLean tended to pair Greene with an AHL callup which was disastrous to say the least.

With his size, Greene's going to get outmuscled in front of the net but he's a capable puck mover. Greene is getting a ton of minutes, but if he were to go to a team with better defensive depth like Vancouver, you could match him up against botttom-6 lines while also knowing that he's respectable against top-6 when you can't match on the road.

andy greene

last year when paul martin went down greene stepped up and logged a lot of mins and put up some decent stats for a devils defenseman. if some playoff team would pick this guy up and plug him in as a #4-6 defenseman it would be a steal. last year and this year he has been logging #1-3 defensive minutes for the devils and with lemaire back he has been playing awesome lately. i think a few teams will be knocking on lou's door bc hes an UFA and has like a 700k cap hit

Greene is only worth 1.2M max to the devils, we have other D in our system ready to come in so he knows sign or walk.

I think he'd be a great fit for the Sharks, no clue what Jersey would be asking for in return though.
