It's a price to pay for a player on the verge of establishing himself as a young #1 goalie who is signed at a discounted rate. Why would the Kings help a conference rival improve their goaltending for the long term?

Only on HFBoards does a prospect with 26 games played qualify as "proven", while a winger that's top 40 in league scoring and has scored 350 career goals is a "spare part".

Let's be reality...

Who knows if Bernier would be any kind of long term goaltending solution for anyone? He hasn't even shown he is a good backup at this stage.

Basically you are asking for a bigger return than Loungo got. You know, a guy who actually had proven he was a #1 goaltender in the league.

Anyway, Avs don't need young unproven goalies. They need someone who they can count on to stand firm when it is windy.

Maybe not, but he is still very young and scoring at a PPG clip lately in the AHL.

I made that proposal because Craig Anderson would be a good backup for the playoffs, and Bernier would get the starts he deserves in Colorado. David Jones would add offense to a playoff bound team, and the 2nd round pick could essentially be a low first rounder. Not a huge gamble for the Kings either way.
Bernier is very valuable to the Kings and he is not going to be traded if overpayment will not be coming our way.
Colorado has good prospect in Calvin Pickard. They should develop him to become their starter.

Is that overrating Bernier, or protecting ourselves from sending the next Roy to the Avs for peanuts?
I don't disagree. I'm just saying the Kings' organization see's more value in him than he would get on the market. That's just the way it is.

I do think that one of Bernier/Quick will ultimately be moved though, like kiprusoff/Nabokov, but the time for that is still a long ways away.

I think he is doing well in his first season...

Using Florida's terrible trade history does nothing to back your argument. Everybody knows FLA got taken in that trade.

And prospects with little to no NHL resume are vastly overrated on this site.

Holy ouch batman, take Bernier out and put something else there and maybe, but no way LA considers Bernier for that return, you would have to give up something you don't want to for him.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find any GM who thinks Bernier isn't an elite talent.

Do you think that Avs fans think of Jones and Hejduk as spare parts? We've been high on Jones since his sophomore year at Dartmouth and Hejduk has been a core member of our team since the 90's. And he's still been one of the best players on our team this season despite his age.

Bernier was drafted with 9th draft pick of 2006 draft and was groomed for four years by Kings. He is valuable backup for Kings today and is our possible starter for years to come.
We are not going to trade him for this kind of return.
