Weiss to Columbus

I know a few teams are interested (Montreal, etc), and Florida may not deal him, but I can see Weiss being an extremely good fit with Nash in Columbus if they are going to buy. What would it take to make this happen? Is it realistic?

I think I heard somewhere that McCabe loves it in FLA and has no interest in waiving his NTC.

Meh.. I like Weiss, but we'd be better off spending assets on a defenseman.

Columbus needs a center every year. But the gm never makes a deal. What makes this year different

God forbid it be discussed in a public forum.

a "current" future of johansen/brassard/vermette atleast gives the hope that that won't be the case for too much longer

Johansen is the real deal. they don't need Weiss cause next year Johansen is going to be on the team. They need a rental for 2 months that might get them in the playoffs.

Brassard presently is an extremely good fit with Nash here, now that things are coming together. I'd definitely love to have Weiss, but not at the price it'd rightfully take.

Now, if you're willing to send us one of McCabe or Wideman, on the other hand...

Johansen has proven nothing yet, and having both Weiss and Johansen in Columbus would be a good problem for them to have.

And he'd be a fantastic pick up for this season, which is the most important thing. The Jackets could use a playoff appearance to get the city back into hockey. Their long stretch of suck kind of killed the excitement.

I don't even mean to be a dink. I'm just saying if I were I bluejackets fan I would be up in arms your gm hasn't put a legit #1 center with Nash. Nash deserves one and you guys deserve one. Forget the future players, get one now. Weiss is a great option, no excuses, got get him. So what if it takes a first rounder, whatever it takes to make the playoffs this yr

us fans have come to grips that dealing our first this year has to be in play to get either a 1C or 1D which both is needed...

How many #1 centers have been traded in the last 4 years?

Stephen Wiess is not an upgrade on any of the three top-6 centers (one of whom typically plays wing) that we already have. He's more of the same. A very, very nice more of the same to have, but more of the same.

This suggestion might have been relevant as recently as two years ago, when Manny Malhotra was the #1C. It's now pretty much done.

Clearly Weiss is better than the guy who's got 13 points in his last 13 games and is on pace for more points than Weiss...

Not picking sides here (because I don't get to see Weiss play much), but Weiss had a span of 13 games in which he had 14 points. They have pretty much the same stats at this point.

13 game sample sizes shouldn't be used as proof for anything. Brassard is on pace to have a nice year, Weiss has already had a couple of those seasons, plus the current one. It's not unreasonable to think Weiss is an upgrade.

Maybe you are right, but not because of the reason you listed. Weiss has put up a couple of 60 point seasons but I don't think it's crazy to think that Brassard won't be doing the same as well. I insert foot in mouth and say that I'd probably just rather stick with Brassard on the top line.
