What is wrong with the 2002 draft again? 30 NHLers in the first two rounds including a Rocket Richard winner, a Norris winner and a Conn Smythe winner...

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2002e.html

After pick 8... only three high end talents
Semin (13)
Ward (25)
Keith (54)

Everyone else either busted or became dime a dozen talent in the next two rounds... brutal draft.

The names are right there

I could see a team offering a late 1st for neil. Hes a good team guy plays his role very well and can play hockey.

I doubt it. I can't see them paying 2m for a 4th line tough. Yes, it would be nice to have him in your lineup but not at that price and I doubt they'd give up anything of substance for him.

Rick Nash?

Stoll, Lupul, Fleischmann, Higgings, Stajan, Upshall, Hudler?

Bouwmeester, Wideman, Ballard, Pitkanen, Whitney?

Draft was deep..

EDIT: Just caught the "after pick 8"... Draft still wasn't THAT bad...

Since you are here and all. Why are you forcing such a rigid comparison between the two draft classes in the first place, you know, aside from the fact that it fits your anti-Murray agenda? I know you put a lot of work into your posts, but you doing nothing more than blowing smoke in peoples faces. You obviously know it doesn't work that way. You take one negative comment and automatically use it as a means to compare it to the worst draft class in recent memory. It's like comparing the Americans recent adventure in Iraq to the Vietnam War because they both involved the States and they both were "bad."

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the draft HASN'T EVEN HAPPENED YET, I figured a probability junky like yourself would respect the inherent randomness of the draft. It could turn out great.

Not sure if Murray will move him in the East, but Montreal better get off their arses and do something. Neil + Phillips for a 1st + prospect - and I'd probably do it soon as other teams are now on full alert that they can get these guys if they come to Murray with the proper offer.

Really surprised that Montreal is hanging back on all of this, but wouldn't be surprised if they made a good offer for one or both of Phillips and Neil.

I agree, teams going into a rebuild usually want to keep at least one veteran grinder. Fisher is gone, Kelly is gone and Ruutu will be gone at the deadline. So if Neil was traded, there would be no veteran grinder on the team.

If your argument is Neil is our enforcer there to protect players, that's a joke. Matt Carkner is our guy who will drop the gloves now not Neil. Yes I like having Neil on the team but as others have said you could pay a guy much less to do the same things, and it's not only about dumping salary they're trying to get all the old players out and bring in new faces a fresh start. If a 2nd rounder is offered Murray accepts done deal.

Is Peter Regin available? With the way he played against us in the playoffs, I wouldn't mind trading a 2nd for him

No, seems unlikely. We need young forwards, and although his production hasn't be great this year, his play has been great and he's shown that he still possesses a lot of creativity.

I love how all the keyboard warriors are pretending to know exactly how deep this year's draft is on the basis of "hurr derp, if picks are gettin' traded it must be a weak draft!!!11one"

What is Ottawa looking for? It can't be only picks, there must be some use for prospects and young players, no? I'd toss Cogliano into the discussions, Neil is the type of guy the Oilers need to fill out and become a well rounded team.

I could of sworn you said the other day Brian that everyone was available except Alfredsson and Karlsson? Did you change your mind Brian?

Sounds like Neil wants to stay....

http://www.torontosun.com/sports/hoc.../17249111.html

Though the article mentions Vancouver does have interest; don't know enough about the author to comment on the validity of the 'source'.

The second will likely be 31st overall...I doubt Edmonton will be trading that for Neil. 3rd pick + a roster player perhaps, but I don't see them giving up that pick unless its in a deal for a better player than Neil.

No, because trading young players from a rebuilding team never makes sense; especially when Kovalev on his own can probably garner a 2nd.

A 2nd in 2012 + Ben Maxwell

For Chris Neil + 3rd in 2011 ? (or 4th)

Though, that would really **** Hamilton over.

Keith was in that draft? That means he was passed over completely in 01 wild.
