They would be better off to keep him. Chris Neil took a pay cut to stay there and wants to stay a Senator. You need to keep some veterans on your team when your rebuilding and Chris is the type of the guy that will fight for his team mates. You won't get fair value for him in a trade. Also if Versteeg got a 1st and 3rd from a good team, I could see the Canucks at least offering a 1st, which is basically like an early 2nd.
Chris Neil is easily worth a late 1st 24-30 belonging to a contending team but I doubt Ottawa deals him. They need someone who can play and protect the their up coming kids.
He is the best enforcer/3rd line player/hitting and grit combo player in the NHL. The guy leads the league among forwards about every year and that should tell you he plays significant minutes at least 13 mins a night. Most importantly he plays just as much in the playoffs because he can skate and forecheck big-time. An excellent open ice hitter also.
Signed for 2 more years also so he isn't just a rental. Just turned 30 years old so he has several good prime years in him.
Pierre Mcguire was on the radio here and said his value is a 4th round pick, Maybe a 3rd. I think he has more insight than us.
Pierre says a lot of things because he likes to hear himself talk. He also said the Oilers will only get a 2nd rd pick for Dustin Penner. A few hours later Versteeg netted a 1st and 3rd. I think Neil is worth a 2nd (though I'm not sure the Oil's 31st overall).
I'd offer 61st overall and Rajala (not sure if that's enough)?
