Puck Moving D man to Columbus

What would it take for one of Sekera, Goligoski, Carle, or Liles to be dealt to Columbus?

The teams who would give up a PMD are teams that are rebuilding and if they're young they'd probably like to keep them.

If CBJ can get Gonchar they should take him

Tons of cap space, veteran leadership, big name player who could put Columbus on the map for UFA singings, would be a great mentor to young players and wouldn't cost a lot.

Also, what does it matter if he's overpaid? CBJ has $20mil in cap space and if they want to make the playoffs, they need to take some risks and get a few overpaid impact players for a chance at a run in the post season.

We're holding cap space open for when Brassard, Voracek, Mason, Johansen, Filatov, etc. need new contracts. Howson loves the players he drafted/developed to a fault. He doesn't want to lose them either in a trade or in free agency.

How about we send the picks + Commodore?

Other then the fact that you just contradicted yourself if hes overpaid or not, Columbus doesnt need him. He'd most likely be no better than any of our players now. Putting you on the map for UFA is really over rated btw. We have Rick Nash, if that doesnt put you out there, nothing will. Gonchar isnt worth 2 more years at 5 mill. Pass. Could someone answer the question I originally asked? Sekera, Gogo, Carle and Liles. What would it take.

I never said he wasn't overpaid, I said CBJ has tons of cap space.

As for being on the UFA map, it's hardly overrated. Good teams are built through strong drafting and then they are surrounded by impact UFA's who fill the needs. I don't know about you but if I was a high calibre UFA I wouldn't want to go to the team who's currently 13th in the West.

Reasons to go to teams who are lower in the standings are for tons of money (Campbell to CHI) and big name players who you want to play with.

You can never have enough big name players and while Nash may help bring people in, having 2 or 3 players like that doesn't hurt at all.

As for cap space, even if Gonchar was traded for, that's still $15m in cap space which is more than enough to extend everyone's contracts.

How about Campoli? Hes just 26, a puck mover, has a 1.4 mil cap hit and is a RFA at the end of the season.

The return probably has to be a 2nd rounder or a prospect like Straka plus a pick.

Having 20 million in cap space is different then being allowed to spend 20 million. Columbus is making a push for the playoffs. This isnt the East where if your in 12th place you suck. Look at how close everyone is to each other. As for Gonchar, their's a reason no one wants him. Campoli has been talked about, but he's not fetching Straka and a pick. I'd give up a 2nd though.

Where are you getting this $20mil in cap space? Current CBJ roster is at $52+mil (with a cap hit of $55+mil).

Could be wrong, but Sekera for a second sounds realistic. Just have no way to read what Howson really has in mind, though.

From what we're hearing, Nikki needs progress and development to play in the AHL. He's been hurt, but hasn't been all that great when he has played. Still holds great potential, but he's going to have to really pick it up to get another look in Columbus, this season. We have to hope he'll work hard in the off-season and eventually start to fulfill some of the promise he's shown. That said, I'm sure there would be interest around the league in Filatov, if only from GMs who think all he needs is a change of scenery and the magic of their sweater. Naturally, the offers won't be too big and I'm of the opinion that Howson has not yet given up on the kid, so I'd not be too surprised to see him in Union Blue again, next season.

This. He's became expendable in Ottawa with Gonchar and Karlsson, + Rundblad coming next season.

I could see the Pens shipping Gogo for one of Columbus's young forwards.

sekera is not a puck-moving d-man, i am not sure as goligoski would play in here /cbj/, similar carle. besides they are still young and we have enough young pmd - moore, goloubef, savard, russell could wake up /stralman is rfa after the season/. we need a defensman with experiences. so, only liles. and i doubt colorado will trade here. if young so a player as bogosian not goligoski, sekera or carle.
