I love how in every single trade thread with a Leafs player involved, we are ridiculed for overrating our players, yet when trades happen, the responces are always the Leafs bent over the other team (go look up the first Versteeg deal in the summer, the Beauch deal last week, and the Versteeg deal two days ago).

Although not impossible, I'll be surprised if Rutherford deals with a team that he is directly competing with for the final playoff spots.

He's a fringe top-4 D who's been on fringe playoff teams, and he has a reasonable contract and a skillset contending teams value (PMD). He's been moved to acquire Phaneuf/Aulie and Kostopolus/The Anton. He's an asset, the problem is, he's just an expendable one.

Well there are a LOT of you on the boards... maybe that has something to do with positive reaction to the trades?

........... maybe the 3rd + something minor for white (a player hes familiar with and will likely re sign) TO replace kabs this season if infact he gets dealt in the near future
I would think people would outbid him.

I would think Boston among others would offer more than the Philly 3rd.

I'm thinking the Rangers but don't they need a left handed shot?

We know Carolina wanted Joslin last year in the Wallin deal, stands to reason that might be who they want now too.

We need stability on the 3rd pairing much more than we specifically need handed shots.

yes. if one of gilroy/eminger wasnt sent in a trade for white we'd have 5 RH dmen on the roster.

I watch Carolina very, very closely.

White has been much better in Calgary than he was in Calgary. However his ice time has been affected significantly.

Averages 17 minutes TOI in Carolina vs. 21 minutes in Calgary.

His offense hasn't crystallized at all. He can still skate and move the puck, but I don't know if he ever has a 40 point season again. He can't play Kaberle-type minutes. White would be a great, and permanent, replacement for a guy like Lebda on Toronto. But he does not replace Tomas Kaberle.

White has not fit particularly well in Carolina. His defense has been good enough, offense non-existent. Buzz around him is that he doesn't seem happy here, and will be shipped out soon.

Calgary won that trade easily.

Wallin might even waive his NTC to go back to Carolina and finish out his career with the team he played for the longest.

White for Wallin (NTC waived), Mitchell, Joslin and 2nd/3rd 2011

Even if that's a slight overpay (probably not considering that offer could be better than what any other team would do, and the Sharks really need a guy like Ian White and shouldn't let Mitchell/Joslin/non-1st round pick be a sticking point that allows White to go somewhere else), you still do it.

Ian White is not coming to Toronto. Burke said the player he offered the 3rd rounder for is a forward, not a defenseman.
