Jeez, why do we even bother taking the ice anymore. Well it was a fun season. I was able to enjoy some winning hockey for a couple months. Maybe next year we will be able to field an NHL caliber defense, but probably not.
Lehtonen was pillow soft on that, but it should have never happened.
But none of this matters until the Stars' top scorers start playing like their top scorers. Again, this whole thing turned against Phoenix when Neal failed to even put the puck on an open net, then Phoenix came right back down and scored.
The most talented part of this team is its offense, but we're learning when they're as weak mentally as Neal, it doesn't matter.
Some of that is I think favorable home book keeping. Every time Lehtonen plays the puck they seem to be counting it as a shot as opposed to actual things that would have gone in the net without him there if it's 48.
But the other thing is the Stars best players aren't shooting. Neal has a ridiculous habit of not shooting if his first shot of the game doesn't go in, and Eriksson is having difficulty getting free enough. They need to be volume shooters, and they're just not. Combine that with only first-half Robidas has any offensive ability on the defensive end, and there's just not a lot of creating going on out there.
The more I watch this game, the more I just want to jump through my screen and strangle a couple of the top line forwards.
ETA: Okay, not actually 48. I feel better about the stat-keepers in Calgary now.
