Chris Phillips doesn't want to be traded.

RT @kuklaskorner: RT @SunGarrioch: Chris Phillips declared today and he wants to stay and help the rebuild.

RT @Real_ESPNLeBrun: Sens GM Bryan Murray just told me he hadn't been informed of antyhing yet from Phillips camp. Strange times.

Not determined: whether or not he accepts a trade and then returns to Ottawa in July.

That would be the best way to help out the rebuild

He's 33 next month. Well past his prime.

If I'm the Sens, I'd offer him only up to 3M average and 3 years on a contract extension. If he's not interested in that, you have to tell him you aren't interested in resigning him and that you'd like to explore trading him to a contender for the remainder of the season. Maybe they could leave on good terms and renegotiate in the summer.

His 4 assists and team worst -27 aren't going to do him a lot of favours in any negotitiation.

Does he have an NTC? If not, I don't think this is even an issue.

Best case scenario is that he comes back to Ottawa on July 1st.

That's what I'm thinking as well. Unlike some of the other guys, his family is too well rooted here. Same situation as Alfredsson.

Yeah he does have NTC which is why Sens fans are mostly upset if he decides not to waive it.

If he was truly committed to helping the rebuild, he should realize that he is an asset that could fetch the Sens a decent little future return at the deadline, and he could just return in July.

Phillips has always struck me as the rare type of guy who could play his whole career in one city. He already took slightly below market value to stay in Ottawa on his last extension and probably gave up some $$ for the comfort of a no trade clause. IIRC he has a nice ranch outside the city and both he and his family are very much rooted in Ottawa. I could see him back at 3 years at around $8.25MM, with that same NTC.

That being said, this year has just been a rough one all around in Ottawa, and I think that is the main cause for Phillip's brutal +/- . He would still be a stellar addition for a playoff team trying to solidify its top 4, and Ottawa might see at least one offer that's too good to pass up for a rebuilding club. That's when loyalty, for both the player and team, will really be tested.

I intend to have a frozen pepperoni pizza for dinner. Although my wife might prepare something far healthier. In reality it's all up to her though. If she makes something then that's probably what I'm going to eat like it or not.

I do reserve the right to turn down my wife's dinner and eat the frozen pizza instead but that would just piss her off.

If he's serious, I hope he takes 2.5 X 3 to help the rebuild financially as well.

This, plus she might insist on healthy food so much that I get pissed off, eat nothing but frozen pepperoni pizza for the rest of the year, and then sign on with a new wife in July.

His father is sick... Phillips is a family first guy... he does not want to play into May/June when he could be with his dad.

If he does not want to go... I will not be mad at all... family first

Dreger just tweeted that Phillips has not been asked to waive NTC yet.

Really hope he stays in Ottawa.

I wouldn't mind if the Sens held on to him. Having a down year and I like the idea of having him only play for the Sens his entire career. Re-sign him for a deal that shows his commitment to the club (under market value). We'll need veteran dmen next year so it makes sense to want to keep him.

Phillips is in no position to help any team in any regard this season.

He is currently one of the worst d-men in the league!

Only Lebda has a worse gvt. Lebda!

So...

-All those d-men in Edmonton: Better.
-All those d-men in NYI: Better.
-All those d-men in Atlanta: Better.
-All those d-men in Colorado: Better.
-And all those other d-men in Ottawa, including Gonchar and Kuba: Better.

Phillips is Superbad this season. Yeeeeeeow!
