MTL and OTT (spezza)

With Ottawa seeming to be in blow up mode what would Ottawa fans think about moving Spezza?

MTL:

Gomez
2011 1st
2011 3rd (2011 2nd was traded)
2012 2nd
Kritso (Potentually?)
Weber

OTT:

Spezza

Reasoning for this is ottawa will get 3 2011 first round draft picks this year jump starting their complete rebuild, a young defencemen doing well in the NHL and two more decent picks. Before everyone crys about Gomez my thinking was with ottawa rebuilding they wont really need to worry about Gomez's contract being an issue because by the time they are serious contenders (if all goes well) should be around 3 or so seasons away as their young kids grow.

Too little? Too much? What would be fair to you as an ottawa fan or another fan if he was traded.

Not enough for Spezza, especially not when you're giving us a pick that might be around 20-24 overall, and Scott Gomez... He's just terrible.

Deals involving big name players and/or players with big salaries are way too hard to judge. Right off the bad though I'm going to have to guess that Ottawa fans wouldn't deal Spezza away unless Subban was coming the other way and that would never happen. Every single habs proposal has fans of the other team saying "we want Subban or Pacioretty".

Haha I was gonna say I stopped reading when I saw Spezza, but I gave you the benefit of the doubt and kept on reading. Then I read Gomez.

Stopped reading at Gomez

Spezza is likely one of the few who won't be offered around.

Still, awful value. Gomez is really, really unappealing.

Exactly, which is why Montreal won't trade them.

Ridiculous proposal OP. As a Sens fan, I hope Spezza is in Ottawa for the long haul.

Counter (for fun):
Pacioretty
Plekanec
1st 2012
1st 2013

Your trade proposal is 10x more ridiculous then the OP. I think you might be over evaluating spezza just a little

The proposal by OP is indeed rediculous. Your counter proposal is insane.

Oh, GOMEZ? I thought we should keep Spezza, but I didn't know we could get GOMEZ for him!

Switch Gomez to Leblanc and Kristo to MaxPac and then you have yourself something the Sens would actually look at.

I honestly wouldn't do the OP trade from a Habs perspective.

A 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd is a lot folks. The likelihood of one of those 3 picks turning out to be a very good NHLer is pretty high. And it's even possible that 2 of those 3 picks turn out to be very good NHLers. Then you add Kirsto and Weber, too very solid young prospects, to the list, and it starts to look insane from a Habs perspective.

The difference in quality between Gomez and Spezza just isn't worth it, in my mind. And the cap hits for both players is huge, so the only thing at play here is how good the two players are in comparison to each other.

Basically, going from a below average 2nd line Center to a 1A Center is not worth three early round picks and two good prospects besides.

Truth be told, I might do it from a Sens perspective. If the idea is to do a 2-or-3 year slow rebuild, then who cares if you have a horribly overpaid player for that length of time? The team is going to be sucking and getting high draft picks anyway.

I'd give 1st 2011, 1st 2012, Weber and Gomez (cap reasons) for Spezza. 2 first rounds picks is a hefty price. but spezza is like 28 still.

Montreal shouldn't consider trading for Spezza, if you're gonna give away assets of that kind, trade for a winger with size, offer STL something they can't refuse for Backes.
