Ian White

I realize this was brought up in the realistic trades. But i thought this has a very strong possibility and should deserve its own thread. For a while i have thought that Ian White was one of the best slightly cheaper options out there. He is sound defensively and we could use his big point shot on our struggling PP. Joni Pitkanen was also brought up in the article but i think White is more realistic. What do you guys think of the possible acquisition? And what would it take? Realize Carolina is fighting for a playoff spot.

i got from this article BTW http://www.nhl.com/ice/blog.htm?id=17

I guess White was also kept out of the morning skate http://twitter.com/ice_chip

He is most likely going to get moved. And i would think DW would atleast pursue White.
I know this can get posted on the main boards but i much rather prefer these boards

He wasn't in the lineup tonight, so a trade is probably coming very very soon. I don't think he is injured.

As I said in the other thread, my hope is Wallin will waive his NTC to go back to the Canes and Canes will accept as part of the cap dump to make this deal happen.

Wallin (NTC waived), Joslin, Mitchell and a 2nd round pick in 2011 for White to me is the (an?) ideal deal here.

If the Canes don't want Mitchell, then the Sharks should waive him.

The Canes dumped Wally on us to clear room for a partial rebuild. The fans over there like him, but the management has other things in mind than aged vets with no skills or intangibles to speak of.

Obviously the Canes rebuild was not sufficient, so they'll be expecting some high picks and/or prospects to move White.

I don't even like White, so I probably should bow out of this thread.

Mitchell has been pretty bad and he is overpayed for what he brings. I honestly would rather have McGinn in the lineup. Much quicker on his feet and gives it his all every shift. McGinn also supposedly has some "offensive potential"

Your post on the main boards made me , Though a Joslin + Cap dump wouldn't be that bad. Just hope he doesn't add any picks especially a 1st rounder.. even if the draft is weak this year.

But don't you think a pick like a 2nd or 3rd is necessary to help Carolina stomach some of the cap dump, such as Wallin and/or Mitchell?

Seems likely that a pick would be added just hoping that the Canes are really high on Joslin.

Maybe, but a pick is also the answer to the question: "Why the **** would the Canes take back Wallin and/or Mitchell?"

Cause DW gave up a 2nd and gave him a 2.5m extension mainly because of those couple times being the "secret weapon" for Carolina.

Agreed, I'm think 2nd-4th, but likely a 2nd given that there will be other suitors for Ian White and a 2nd will help seal the deal.

I highly doubt its a 1st round pick. As it stands White is a rental. And he is not a #1 round pick worthy rental. I can see.. Huskins/ Wallin + Mitchell/Joslin+ 3rd or 4th pick which moves to a 2nd if White resigns

White is worth maybe a 2nd, nothing added. If the Sharks go they have to move salary, I would imagine it would be Mitchell/Huskins going the other way, though I think I would rather keep Huskins and bench Walin for the rest of the season as the #7

I would rather keep Huskins as well he is a soiid player. Move Mitchell and 2nd and call up Ferriero or trade for a LH puck mover and call up Braun and Ferriero.

I don't know about White. Nobody wants this guy on their team, why is that? That is

I can see replacing/upgrading Wallin/Huskins with a more puck moving D which White is. This would be bottom half pairing and i'd rather use Demers/Braun in this area. I think a
2nd rounder is fair for him, just not sure i'd do it if i'm DW. I'd really want an impact player, e.g. Kaberle, that can actually make the team better.

PS i know Kaberle won't go west...

White for a 2nd + Joslin/Huskins/Wallin sounds good to me. he could be a solid under-the-radar acquisition. we were pretty high on him b4 he was dealt to CAR. we forgot about him, but maybe DW didnt.. the more i think about it, the more i like it. pair him with Vlasic, and call up Braun as the #7 for playoffs

It's not a matter of nobody wants the guy. He was dealt from Toronto for Phaneuf. White had nothing tying him to Calgary and negotiations likely turned sour between the two during the off-season...and now he's a rental on a team that is on the brink.

I like White and what he'd bring to this team but he'd be a rental at this stage.

When has Carolina ever taken a dump in trade? They are on a budget since I can remember. They take low cost, may turn it around type contracts (eg Samsonov).
