When has Carolina ever taken a dump in trade? They are on a budget since I can remember. They take low cost, may turn it around type contracts (eg Samsonov).
That's why I was assuming if there was a deal between the two teams, it'd be Joslin and a 2nd for White and then the Sharks would have to find a deal elsewhere to take Huskins or Mitchell off their hands. But one can hope that they'd take Huskins back which is less than what they'd pay keeping White so they do cut costs.

You might get them to bite on Huskins, he is cheap. They don't develop dmen well with McBain being the first homegrown with promise in a loooonnnngggg time. They did something similar in the Corvo trade.
Just for others, the Canes were trying to unload Wallin for a couple of years. Why would they take him back?

Just as a rhetorical answer, they would take him back for the rest of this year in order to get other assets they want. They tried to move him back when he still had contract length and an NTC. If they take him back now, he's gone at the end of the year and they don't have to worry about having to keep him.
But in general, I agree that the Sharks are stuck with him short of DW waiving him.

Yeah that's a bummer. Huskins is actually a pretty fair 6th defenseman, and I wouldn't even mind re-signing him if it's in the < 1.2 million range.
Wallin, I just don't want.

The only issue I have in keeping Husky over Hamburgler is with Husky would our D be too soft?
Boyle, Vlasic, Demers, White and Husky aren't really crease clearers. Only Murray would be. At least Wallins tries to act like a tough guy and occasionally succeeds.

That was the first point which is that the Canes don't take dumps, some other teams do. They are one of the few teams that talks openly about a payroll budget. It isn't the floor, but they do know exactly how much they will spend. Just FYI, they tend to keep their contract count very low as well. That is part of their budgeting. Currently, 44 active contracts; it has been even lower in the past.

No, I don't think its too soft. Its not the size of dog. Its the fight in dog.
Also, with Niemi you don't need crease clearing. He can deal with people in the crease. He isn't Nabby. What Niemi needs is guys in front of him who finesse and tie the stick up. And they could all do that.

I understand what you're saying in general but taking Wallins (along with, say, Joslin, 2nd and maybe even another prospect from Worcester - let's say Mashinter) still means they save $500K (or $499,995 to be exact) for the remainder of the year. Then Wallins would be off the books....Huskins would save them even more...
So I get what you're saying but per your point about strict payroll budget, taking on either Wallins or Huskins SAVES them money...

It's not realisitic to assume every trade in the NHL today will only involving cap hit going one way. I know it happens (Versteeg trade is an example), but you can't assume every trade will go down like that, not in the Salary Cap era.

That type of trade would have to save more than other offers. Money is part of their equation. No problem with your logic. Just include budget in trades suggested for the Canes.
