From Bostonbruins.com

Puck drop -- The Islanders will see forward Chris Kelly for the second game in a row, but he'll be in a different uniform. Kelly played for Ottawa against the Isles on Tuesday, then was traded to Boston after the game for a second-round pick.

LOL: This is the government we're talking about. Common sense packed its bags years ago.

If/when Tomas comes to us, he too will face even more visa issues as he is Czech not Canadian and the rules are vastly different from European countries.

Personally, I don't mind the hullabaloo. My friends have a home in Nova Scotia which they visit from time to time, and depending on the mood of the border officials up Canada way, they can be downright persnickety, invasively inquisitive, bullish with a stiff upper lip and all kinds of malarkey. They act like they were all trained at Ben Gurion or something.

Course, it's not always like that, but I don't mind seeing Canadians being put through the wringer also, only because I've seen it done to decent, honest Americans plenty of times.

He'll get it all together and suit up soon enough.

Does Canada have a dual citizenship arrangement with the Czechs or the general EU?

I have a friend who was granted asylum in Canada from Serbia and I think she still has citizenship in the former Yugoslavian countries as well as Canada, but I can't be sure if hers was a special status or not.

Same thing for Lapierre when traded to Anaheim.

Bish just twittered/tweeted that Kelly won't play tonight and his first game as a Bruin will be against the Senators.

Sigh. I was really excited to see him tonight.

Better against the Islanders than the Habs, I guess.

I can't say for sure but I had friends in school that were born in Germany and the Netherlands and they both received their Canadian citizenship while we were in high school.

Lets hope he doesn't go to the wrong bench ala Ryder or dressing room for that matter.

It really doesn't make any sense to me. I work for the government (of Canada albeit), but I figure the bureaucracy and procedures should be pretty...well similar. And for stuff like this, it can be sent in via priority mail or whatever. Costs extra dollars, but with a full business day, the papers can be processed and ready to go for the next day. There have been 2 full business days between when the trade was consummated and tonight's game. How the visa "ISSUES??" were not resolved between now and then is ridiculous.

And how are they calling it an "issue"? It's more like laziness and procedural crap nonsense.

If you're talking about laziness and procedural crap nonsense on the part of someone in the Immigration Department, you're probably right.

I hope that's who Felger's going off on, because to go off on the Bruins or the Sens or Kelly himself would be ridiculous.

I HIGHLY DOUBT that this is the problem....but I do know there is a limited number of these types of visas available across the US. Not sure how "muddied" the process can become if the number already granted gets high enough....

The point is, I think, that any time you're dealing with a huge bureaucracy the odds are pretty high that some kind of red tape/procedural mess is going to happen.

Forsberg's comeback was delayed as well with visa problems (though Felger's probably unaware of that); this is not unheard of.
