Trade discussion doesn't just have to be proposals, it can also involve media sources like this this very thread. The fact that Dreger mentioned concrete names such as Penner and the Sullivan-Kostitsyn thing is useful, I don't think he would specifically state those players without a source.

I don't have a problem discussing potential trades, but when I see people getting all holier-than-thou and pretending like they concretely know if things will happen or not - we will never trade X for Y, this team has zero use to us, etc, etc... then it's just ridiculously absurd. You can't be so absolute.

I think Penner could easily be traded for a first rounder and a prospect from Montreal without Pacioretty. I think the Oilers would certainly consider that given that Penner is not as young as the rest of their core. But I don't know that. And I wouldn't blame Oilers fans for thinking otherwise.

Sure Penner can throw bigger hits more frequently, but he doesn't hit that often, which is what the habs need. A physical guy.
You guys don't seem to see that there is more to being physical than throwing a hit.

Don't worry Montreal,

we'll give you a 30 goal scorer in his prime for peanuts and spare parts.

No kidding. All you can say to that is Ryder, Halak, and a 2nd.

Ok you can have JFJ then. He throws hits - exactly what the Habs need.

JFJ for 6th round pick

Liam Reddox has 40 in 23 so he is more physical than both?

When it comes to dealing Penner, the Oilers are in the position to set the terms of the bargain. And they won't let Penner go for a late pick and spare parts. You have to give to get.

I hope both of these rumors are false. AK for Sullivan would rival the Ribeiro trade as one of the dumbest ever done by the habs, next to Gomez/Pyatt for Higgins/McDonagh/Valentenko. Dustin Penner doesn't interest me one bit either, nothing against Penner, but I would rather hang onto AK and my prospects/draft choices. These 2 deals would be the worst moves made by PG IMO.

And Sullivan waives, then comes back in summer.
By "Teamcanada" I assume you mean "Teamedmonton".

Coming from a fan of the team that overrates their players probably the 2nd or 3rd most, next to Oils fans.

An ok second liner... ok then. Lots of 6-4 240lb 30 goal scorers on 2nd lines, right?

Maybe we should just trade him to Boston. Then Hab fans will get a nice good look at what Penner brings to the table.

Its smarter for us to keep him than sluff him off for spare parts.
That comment might have been valid if you and the rest of the oilers fan base on here were the GM. Hate to break it to you though bro, you aren't.

Who's acting "holier-than-thou" here?

You admitted that not a single fan on these boards has input on NHL GM decisions. We're all passionate fans who think we've got the best interest of our respective clubs at heart. That's it.

There's really no need to get upset at anyone who suggests something that you may not agree with.

I personally believe that Penner won't be dealt for a 1st in a weak draft and a mid-range prospect. There are numerous reasons that lead me to believe this is the case.

And Brian Gionta is a 45 goal scorer ! Of course !
You can trade him to Boston, he will just help (if he doesn't sleep) the Bruins because they are 2-8 in the last 10 games vs the Habs.

If the controversies made PK Subban able to be pried from Montreal, I am sure Edmonton would be all over that.

Penner is the biggest strongest scoring forward in the NHL. He doesn't hit alot but he makes space better than any player I've seen. He goes where he wants and is a mountain of a man in front of the net. There's a bidding war with several teams being able to offer up future #1c or #1d for a Penner+ package.

But obviously the claim he can be had for 21st pick and Weber is accurate. Spare parts are exactly what the Oilers need more of. Can't wait to cheer for Penner in the blue blanc et ****ing rouge...

With Gomez and Horcoff, we can have the two worst centremen contracts in the league!
