Two to three weeks is much better than I thought it was going to be.

If it weren't for his bad luck he'd have no luck at all.

What a shame.

Brassard out at least 2-3 weeks.

Quote:
The Blue Jackets have placed center Derick Brassard on injured reserve this morning, saying in a press release that he'll miss at least two to three weeks.

The release does not specify Brassard's injury, but he told The Dispatch this morning that it's a hand injury. The first MRI did not reveal a broken bone, but Brassard is planning a second MRI today.

Woo, D-Mac as a top 6 center and Howson will watch the playoff hopes disappear from his press box seat. Fun times.

Can somebody tell me why a player on IR would travel with the team?? Didn't know that happened.

It may be worse. They will know more once the swelling goes down.

That puzzles me as well. If he's out 2-3 weeks then why travel?

@TReedDispatch: #CBJ has no immediate plan to recall a forward from minor league Springfield, Howson said.

Travel with the team because he's one of the boys? Also, being a part of a playoff run from the press box is critical in the development of young talent.

Why put him on IR unless there is another move? Has someone been called up that I missed? Did we trade for Spezza and Richards?

Not surprising. Not much to call up with the loss of one of our top six centers.

Saw a tweet that indicated Howson was going to try and address the issue externally, if possible.

I think when a player goes on IR, there is an insurance policy that picks up a large portion of their salary.

Why wouldn't you put him on IR? It's just housekeeping. Might indicate something imminent, might be just hopeful that something is imminent. A little puff of smoke.

As far as traveling with the team on injury, I've heard of it before. It's a one game road trip, I don't think he has a family in Columbus, and it's not like he's going to be rehabbing yet. There's probably not much, if any, real cost to having him along.

I think it only kicks in for long term injuries (minimum number of games) and placing someone on IR is retroactive. There is usually no rush to do it.

This sucks, but we can overcome it. All in all we've been relatively injury free this season compared to other teams.

More likely allowing Brass to travel, as Cbus Mike suggested, because he's one of the boys. If it doesn't impede his rehab.

And as blah says, why not IR him. Gives Howson max roster flexibility.

Interesting. Just never knew this happened. For some reason I thought IR guys were assigned to bed rest, rehab, or something. Makes sense to keep him in the mix though with nothing more than a wrist injury.

I obviously have no inside knowledge on the situation, and my guess is it would be different if this was November.

That northwest road trip via Nashville just got a lot more worrisome.
