with the way our defense is this year and how anderson was we didnt really have a number 1. im surprised they traded him for another goalie, figured they would of tried to get a late pick or whatever but Elliot is young and could maybe turn it around
Elliott still has potential, but Leclaire got injured this year and he's been heavily overplayed this year. I get the sense that it's contributed to his struggles, but yeah he's not ready to carry a fulltime load.
I said it on the trade boards, but I'll say it here.
Avs get a win/win. Anderson simply stopped caring for this club, or at the very least he sure as hell gave that impression. Meanwhile the Avalanche get a young goaltender that will either show he can be a capable starter, or suck so bad that he furthers the tank.
Then again, there's a chance that the Avs are in fact seriously looking at Schneider/Bernier and that one of those teams demanded to have a younger goaltender back...
Could either be the start of a very interesting run up to the trade deadline...or disappointingly silent stretch.
I'm thinking Bernier/Schneider is a pipe dream at this point (not that it wasn't before), and that we go after someone in free agency. Bryzgalov is in all likelihood staying in Phoenix, so maybe Vokoun, but who the hell knows...
Yep, you guys got yourselves a mighty fine backup in Elliott. No ego, total team guy, is pretty good when the team in front of him doesn't totally cr@p the bed... he's pretty notorious around Ottawa for ALWAYS letting in one bad goal per game, but other than that will usually make all the saves he has to make.
Anderson was UFA though, and Elliott is still a RFA. If you weren't planning on bringing Anderson back, then it's good asset management, I guess. Better than having him walk for nothing.
We're still pretty stoked about Anderson though. I think this is a trade that will benefit both teams, assuming you guys are not expecting too much out of a career backup.
This is an absolutely pathetic trade IMO. Anderson will be back in full force next season, book it.
Also I think Andy requested a trade. He left the team a week ago for who knows what. Then he gets put in twice in the Calgary drubbing. They are clearly going with Budaj now. My guess is he asked out.
Good. He quit on the team and his body language when giving up goals lately makes me happy he's gone. The guy doesn't seem to care. He not only has little value, as shown by this trade, but I also now question whether he can even be a starter in the NHL. Next year will be telling. Considering his play this year, the Avs weren't going to be getting much for him anyways.
