Don't think he's going to be the answer down the line.

Anderson for Elliott...CONFIRMED

What do you think about it? Wasn't Anderson your 1st goalie? How will be the 1st now? Not Elliott I hope...

I've watched this guy all the time he's playing against MTL, and he's nowhere a #1 at the moment...

with the way our defense is this year and how anderson was we didnt really have a number 1. im surprised they traded him for another goalie, figured they would of tried to get a late pick or whatever but Elliot is young and could maybe turn it around

Elliott still has potential, but Leclaire got injured this year and he's been heavily overplayed this year. I get the sense that it's contributed to his struggles, but yeah he's not ready to carry a fulltime load.

This is an absolutely pathetic trade IMO. Anderson will be back in full force next season, book it.

Also I think Andy requested a trade. He left the team a week ago for who knows what. Then he gets put in twice in the Calgary drubbing. They are clearly going with Budaj now. My guess is he asked out.

That's.... interesting.

Not sure what to think about that one. Hopefully there's another move on the way, because I'm not convinced Elliott and Budaj can pull it off.

I never saw Elliott as a sure fire starter. But maybe he's better then I'm giving him credit for?

What the ****!? Really? Elliot?

I really think that Andy is going to be awesome next year, and i was hoping for 1-year resigning, and then i read this.

In those games that i have seen Elliot has sucked really badly, so let's hope for one of those Bernier/Schneider deals...

I do...maybe they're gonna get Bernier or another goalie somewhere? I could also see them making some moves on D. Does feel like a set-up move in a way.

Elliott's cap hit is 850k and he is a RFA at seasons end. He turns 26 in April.
Definite Avs move. RFA, young and small salary haha.

YES! That makes sense. I now have hope something better is coming! We were barely at the minimum cap before...

just checked real quick....
Anderson's salary was 1,812,500
Elliott's was 850,000
Cap space freed up. 962,500

I said it on the trade boards, but I'll say it here.

Avs get a win/win. Anderson simply stopped caring for this club, or at the very least he sure as hell gave that impression. Meanwhile the Avalanche get a young goaltender that will either show he can be a capable starter, or suck so bad that he furthers the tank.

Then again, there's a chance that the Avs are in fact seriously looking at Schneider/Bernier and that one of those teams demanded to have a younger goaltender back...

Could either be the start of a very interesting run up to the trade deadline...or disappointingly silent stretch.

I'm thinking Bernier/Schneider is a pipe dream at this point (not that it wasn't before), and that we go after someone in free agency. Bryzgalov is in all likelihood staying in Phoenix, so maybe Vokoun, but who the hell knows...

Yep, you guys got yourselves a mighty fine backup in Elliott. No ego, total team guy, is pretty good when the team in front of him doesn't totally cr@p the bed... he's pretty notorious around Ottawa for ALWAYS letting in one bad goal per game, but other than that will usually make all the saves he has to make.

Anderson was UFA though, and Elliott is still a RFA. If you weren't planning on bringing Anderson back, then it's good asset management, I guess. Better than having him walk for nothing.

We're still pretty stoked about Anderson though. I think this is a trade that will benefit both teams, assuming you guys are not expecting too much out of a career backup.

Either Bernier or Schneider will pull our cap even lower, as assets are going to be going the other way. Management may have decided not to re-sign Andy, and this way they are saving a million bucks.

Good. He quit on the team and his body language when giving up goals lately makes me happy he's gone. The guy doesn't seem to care. He not only has little value, as shown by this trade, but I also now question whether he can even be a starter in the NHL. Next year will be telling. Considering his play this year, the Avs weren't going to be getting much for him anyways.

Save percentage of .894 and 3.19GAA this season, he'll fit right in.

Lol Elliot what a horrible deal this guy is worse than raycrap. Sherman you were so good until about November. You couldn't even send him to a playoff team, now I get to see him tear it up in Ottawa.

Andy had checked out on this team. No way he was gonna re-sign here anyway so better to get something.

would rather have tried to get a 2nd or 3rd. Elliott is similar to Budaj, I wonder if a move is in the works for another goalie, or if the Avs weren't interested in keeping Budaj after this year.

Either that or the avs have embraced the tank for this year and next

Eklund didn't know about that trade, but he surely make it e5 in a few hours

I don't understand and don't like that trade, Elliott is not an answer, and we are on thin ice. What if no UFA goalies want's to join AVS during off-season?
