Gonchar to leafs

There were rumors at one point that he was on the block. He would help our power play and could be a good mentor since most of our defenders are young. Also Ottawa is rebuilding

What would it take?

He's making 5.5 million a year and is even softer than Kaberle....no chance in hell he gets traded to the Leafs.

Gonchar is at least useful, Komisarek isn't.

Gonchar for Komi + 3rd. Maybe both need a change of scenary? Plus the 3rd gives ottawa picks which is what they want.

If Burke wasn't going to pay Kabs he sure as hell isn't going to give up assets and pay Gonchar's contract.

Sure as hell not for Komi.
Theres no one who is a realistic return on the Leafs that I'd trade him for. He has looked a lot better lately and is adjusting a lot better and will improve even more when our coach runs a workable system.

I'd rather keep Gonchar. For all the **** he gets (mostly from other fans), he's still been one of our better Defensemen. He'll be a great mentor for Karlsson in the future and Rundblad and Cowen will be playing next year. It would be a good idea to hold on to him.

Fitting since there's no one on the Leafs I'd realistically part with for him.

Ya... the only realistic swap from the Leafs is Komi for Gonchar.
Sens obviously wouldn't do it.... no deal here.

If the Sens are going to deal Gonchar it's going to be a contender.

I knew some Leafs fan would take offense to that.
Let me walk you through it. Leafs won't take on 5.5mil without giving anything back. Komi sucks. Giguere is a UFA. Phaneuf, Schenn, Grabo, Kulemin, and Kessel are obviously not getting traded for Gonchar.
Basically my post was saying you don't have enough overpaid players, but of course you took it in the worst way possible.

Komi for Gonchar could work. It gives Eugene more money in his pocket(3 million in total) and it gives T.O. a PMD. However it also takes away from the Sens. Gonchar is a better player than Komi but if I'm not mistaken he's on a 35+ contract and those would be very difficult to move.

I doubt the Sens are that desperate to move Gonchars contract and I'm not sure Burke wants another under-performing high price D man.

I predict BIG bounce back year next year and at least 15 goals and 60 points when Clouston's fired. You can trade him for good assets then at next year's deadline.

Downside is, he might block Rundblad's offensive minutes next year.

This doesn't make any sense for the Leafs... By the time the Leafs were good again, Gonchar would be retired.

This. Me, and I would assume many other fans, would be pissed if Kabs was sent packing just to give up assets for Gonchar. Obviously you can take Komisarek if you want him, but anything else doesn't make sense. We can't take him on without shedding salary.

Hell no. Having him eat up Ottawa's cap space is more useful to the Leafs then him actually playing for us.

I have a hard time seeing any team take on Gonchar's contract unless given a pretty hefty compensation. 2 years left on a 35+ contract at over $5 million. That's rough. Ottawa is rebuilding, he'll stay and help Karlsson along the way until the trade deadline when his contract is expiring.

Can't say pens fans didn't warn... no reason why any sane GM would give Gonchar a long term deal for big money. The guy is done.
