That's 4 signings within the hour for John Ferguson Jr.

Well, it's 2 years with a team option for the third year.

I'd like to hear the salary.

You Leaf fans better hope there is a season. If not, you have alot of older guys on the books.

If there's no season, we have Belfour on the payroll.

The others are not old.

Makes it easier on the older guys if we have a shorter season. Not as rigirous a regular season will probably mean they're in better condition when they get to the playoffs.

Thats 3 injury prone guys signed today, all they need is Lindros to sign tomorrow and they have a quartet to keep the trainder busy.

If Belfour signed for anything over $5m then its a horrible deal for them.

2 years at 7 million a year. Team option for a 3rd.

A little hefty but the Leafs werent exactly in a strong position to begin with.

Very pleased to see Belfour re-signed... but not pleased with the contract.
7M is a bit much for Belfour, but without any better options we badly need him if we want to compete.
2 years is very rough... 1 year is all I wanted. Not looking forward to a 41yr old/7M Belfour... clearly Toronto has decided their going to do everything they can to win, even if it means signing less then desirable contracts.

a hefty contract but Eddie's still a top 5 goaltender, I'm happy to have the Eagle back, a little sadened by the Contract but overall I'm hapy he'll be here to mentor Tellqvist.

I am sure they will have enough injuries to keep the trainer busy, with you praying for them and all, right?

Yes, our MVP is locked up for two more years, how awful.

You are a biased Leaf hater, your opinion on anything Leaf related is worth nothing. Of course you are going to call it a "horrible deal". He could have signed for peanuts and you still would have tried to find something to bash the signing for.

Perfectly said. I thought Belfour was brilliant for the blue and white and should've been a Vezina candidate. But $7 million for a 41-year-old is pretty scary. I guess it came down to looking back there and seeing 7 million reasons to sign him anyway, regardless of the price. Those 7 million reasons? Trevor Kidd x 7,000,000.

Yeah, Joe Nieuwendyk (37) and Gary Roberts (38) are real youngsters. Only in T.O..

Caff, Caff! $7 million for Belfour!!!! OMG! Little rough? Ouch! I thought the owners were demanding a salary cap because they didn't have the monies. If you make contracts like this, who's going to believe you?

7 million a season for a 40 year old goalie with the season in jeopardy, is a bit extreme. Why didn't JF.JR look at some other, younger, more reasonable routes: namely Kevin Weekes and Pat Lalime?

They have 1 year contracts.

Why don't you follow along instead of making random anti-Leaf posts?

The way I look at it is that if Ottawa's signing Dominik Hasek to a contract worth $7,000,000... and he's as injury prone as any goaltender in the league, it's not a bad move by JFJ.

Kevin Weekes would have been my third option.

Hasek is signing a deal that has incentives from all reports. Performance incentives. Something JFJ should have done with Belfour IMO.

Difference is that Belfour doesn't have as many injuries/problems as Hasek. There's no reason for Belfour to even consider signing a contract that's based on how he performs.

Leafs were bidding agaisnt themselves. Noone else in the league would pay him that kinda money.

You get more clueless by the day, look at the thread and just about all think its a bad deal for the money and that includes other leaf fans.

Also, how is it a bash when I said that before the salary was announced. He could have signed for $4m and it would have been a good signing.

Now, you come across as a total homer because you are attacking a statement that is reasonable and it may prove a good signing or not, depending on the money involved.

It was just "The others are not old." comment that killed me. Most of us consider 37-38 to be the twilight of a players career.
