Boughner, Gratton, Worrell, Skrastins resigned by Avs

http://www.coloradoavalanche.com/ne...ails.asp?ID=223

Multi-year deals for Gratton and Boughner. Worrell took the qualifying offer and Skrastins signed on for 1 more year.

Boughner is a shocker:

Blake - Vaananen
Foote - Skrastins
Boughner - Liles
Sauer

because if his knee fully heals and skating improves he is a bonafid top 3 enforcer and the avs have already lost barnaby and cummins(thank god) and have no one to protect their stars.

worrell gets the job done and draws a ton of penalties as well as hits consisently every shift.

plus you dont give up nedorost and messier for worrell and florida's 2nd in o4 and have nothing to show for it a year later.

btw that trade didnt quite work out for either team yet:

messier did not get qualified

nedorost and worrell had injury plagued seasons

and the 2nd was shipped with lifton and macallister for barnaby-now gone and a 3rd.

now the winner of the trade depends on worrell vs. nedorost.....sh!!!!!!!ttttt

Yea, he did a bang up job protecting his teammates last year.

So much for the deterrent theory.......

Worrell is a pretty poor enforcer.

No one really noticed it too much in the East, but we saw this year that little guys that fire fast leave him confused and on the defensive. Hordichuk popped him good and sent him staggering to his butt.

He needs to stop hugging.

worrell is a terrible enforce and has become an even worse Fighter. For the last 3 seasons hes tried to enforce on reputation. He then got handed his ass a couple times last year, and now not even that works anymore.

the only person he seems to be able to beat up now a days is Reid Low of St. Louis. But even Low ran from Darren McCarty, so i don't know what to think anymore.

The Bob Boughner re-signing puzzles me... it really does.

Vaananen - Blake
Skrastins - Foote
Liles - Boughner
Sauer

7 capable defensemen now...

Boughner got 1.25 per year, and Gratton 1.5 so not bad, both took pay cuts.

Skrastins got 1.875 for one year

per NHLPA.com

That's not too shabby.

I think Boughner could have gotten 2 or 2.5 million on the open market, so he must really like it in Colorado.

I agree. It also means he'd make a wicked trade chip for other holes in the Avs roster that need filling...
