McKenzie: Palffy to New York?

Bob McKenzie said the New York Rangers may sign Ziggy Palffy as early as Thursday.

This on TSN.

He's always wanted to play for NYR, unfortunately for him, wrong time. If he signs for a bargain deal I wouldn't mind. Same goes for anyone else really, we do have holes to fill but as long as it doesn't get out of hand like before. 1 guy, 2 max.

I don't know, I've always liked Palffy, but this would be hypocritical to the rebuild, then again there aren't enough spots on the team for the ready youth that's in the NHL, so we need some vets.

If he wants to make MUCH LESS money to play opposite Jagr, then lets sign him (incentive based please)

This is probably a dumb question but does Palffy have much experience playing on the left?

larry brooks mentioned over the weekend that palffy turned down an offer from the kings because he thinks that he can get more $$ in ny...of course how would he know that unless the rangers were guilty of tampering??

seems to me like it is simply a case of his agent saying the rangers will make a big offer in hopes of driving up his price...

and then everyone, including mackenzie, are going to assume it is 'business as usual' for the rangers until they prove otherwise (and rightfully so) and just assume the rangers are in the market for every big name...

and after maloney's comments in the papers today about how the rangers aren't going after big name free agents and won't be hunting guys down at the stroke of midnight like in the past because it doesn't work and they are going to go with youth...to then turn around and sign palffy on day 1 of free agency would be a huge PR mistake because most fans don't trust that they will do the right thing in the first place, so to blatantly lie and do the wrong thing in the same move would not be a good idea for a team expecting fans to be patient with a supposed rebuild...

not i'm not saying they might not sign him eventually but signing him thursday would be dumb...the only way i could see them justifying a signing that quick would be if someone like demitra doesn't get qualified and then they could say that they didn't know he'd be available when they made the comment about not signing anyone right away

Palffy reportedly turned down a three year deal in LA worth 6 to 6.5 per year...

Just like that other guy on the FA board, this is just a rumor, chill. Why does Sather have to be bashed for a rumor that might be either made up or a mistake by McKenzie.

Link?

Do you have a link that shows palffy might be going to new york? I hope we get Palffy I really do - watching him in LA he was on a mission to score everytime he was out there - imagine having that with Jagr who also wants to score - or maybe even the 2nd line - we need to build this team with a mix of veterans and the top young players to be successful - we had so much trash after we had traded our veterans at the deadline and we cant have a team that doesnt compete well or entertain - so we do need a few players in the free agency

even if the rangers do sign palffy (which i'm on the fence about) it still only fills one hole in the lineup

i think the rangers have a little more money to spend than many of us realized. i read somewhere perhaps in the daily news that the rangers currently have a 30 million dollar payroll. if the rangers signed palffy to a 3 year 21 dollar contract that isn't the worst deal in the world. This team has holes but palffy would add a lot to the team. I think out of all the free agents out there he is the most talented. With all that being said i'm still not sure how happy i'd be about signing him. I hope it doesn't turn into signing selanne and conroy and hull..........................................

one big name isn't going to hurt but it's not going to help that much either.

Entertainment

We maybe rebuilding - but we need entertainment as well as competive play and not loss after loss - We got good prospects in the system and now we need veterans who can lead our guys and Palffy was great in LA when I watched him

TSN.ca

how come when I go to that tsn.ca website it shows belfour at front and on the right just some headlines but when I go to http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/main.asp it shows free agent lists on the right as well as new content not seen without the main.asp --- is this what I should use when I go to that site now?

Here we go again, signing a RW when we desperately need a LW. Hope the rumor is wrong.

cant believe some peoples responses in other forums to this. they REALLY overestimate what we have. they all expect the young prospects to jump in and be thrown to the wolves? no thanks. give me palffy for a year or two. i just hope he doesnt get hurt again.

Signing any player to a 7 million per deal is a bad idea when you don't know what the labor deal is going to be. If we're at 30 million then that's exactly where we want to be. If you wanna bring in a craig conroy for 3million a year then that's fine, but lets not go hand out a 7 million doller contract when we might be faced with a 31 million doller cap next year(expecially when we need a center, rather than a wing.)
