The "Howson Pulls the Trigger" Poll

This is a POLL.
Your opinion will recorded and you can't slide away from it, no matter how many long ass posts you make.

I have chosen "good player, make playoffs" against my better judgement.
Howson figures his job and season ticket sales are on the line.

Chosen "seller, no playoffs"

Not sure wat we could get in return for some of stuff that could be moved.... late round picks maybe.....

Despite the good play since the break, this team can't gain ground.

The next 3 games are huge. I don't think Howson knows yet what he'll do. 3 games 6 points against playoff teams. IMO 4 points we stand pat. <4 points we're sellers. >4 points and we're buyers.

I chose "good, make..."

Since I have no better judgement, I just went against yours, too.

We pick up a player that is useless.

or

We do nothing.

or

We make yet another AHL trade.

I vote that he continues to try, although that is not an option in the poll. I've given up trying to predict this guy. But he does have Arniel on board telling everyone that Scott's job is hard.

I figure he'll get a move done, but I'm not sure it will define us as a buyer or seller really.

I think he'll pick up someone we haven't considered much and we scratch our heads. Hopefully said player helps us make playoffs. Think Jason Williams.

Seller is mis-spelled.

With that out of the way, I could see him being both on a limited basis if he could acquire a player under contract beyond this year, but I expect the general characterization to be as a seller as I expect several players traded by the deadline, not unlike last year, predominantly to dump salary.

Love to be proven wrong, but I think the prices now are too rich for Howson's blood.

If he buys, I feel like it'll be another Jason Williams-type guy.

If he sells, it will be because they are 4-5 points out.

I voted he acquires a guy who makes us say wtf???

Howson has the uncanny ability to acquire unknowns. Some work out- Hejda and Williams, some are Jiri Novotny and Dick Tarnstrom.

For all I know, he'll claim Nik Hagman

"Mis-spelled" is misspelled.
With that out of the way...

Should have added #9: "Howson wants to make a great trade but is not be able to make one." This is the excuse I am going to run with.

Depends on what happens in the next week. I don't think he'll make a move until the deadline, but he will make one. If we're still within 4 points of 8th, I say he buys. We need some more scoring from the blueline.

Jackets need to win 2 out of 3 before the deadline or he may not buy.

I'd been thinking along these lines, but now I'm starting to think it's more likely that prices are too high for Howson to attempt a significant upgrade, regardless of how the next three games play out. However, if we get <4 pts in the next three games, I think we're sellers. My cynical side says we trade for picks, bags of pucks, and whatnot, those assets are used to jockey for specific draft targets, but that all the effort yields WTF picks.

change "wants" to "wanted" and "is" to "was" and this might be the excuse etched in stone as to why Howson fails to improve this team in the offseason.

I seriously believe he is looking for any reason to sell, sell, sell. He needs an excuse to blow it up again because that's all he really does. I'd prefer if he bought, but I don't know who's left to get that's in the market.

I don't think he buys unless this team is comfortably in the playoff hunt. That said, the only other "buyer"-type move would be to acquire pieces that would be seen as potential mainstays in Columbus, i.e. younger players that are up and coming, since Howson is unlikely to part with any of his young players or high draft picks, I think it will be sellers or nothing.

Here's the way I see the final 3 games leading up to the deadline....

6pts : Buyers, good player and run for the playoffs where we will make the 8th slot and draw Vancouver and suffer for the ridiculous travel that exists in the Western Conference... probably win a game or two, but ultimately knocked out first round.

5pts: Buyers, maybe not as big as 6pts, but still push for 8th... on the line to make it or not.

4pts: Minor dealings at NHL level (most likely the trade to say WTF), but ultimately do nothing. May or may not make playoffs.

3pts: No dealings affecting our current roster, other than minor league trades.

2pts: SELLERS!

1pt: SELLERS x10!!!!

That being said.... I voted to make a trade that makes us say WTF...

I was going to vote WTF, but the chance to call JF an idiot through mod-approved means was too tempting to resist.

I think there are a lot of valuable players available. I believe we could see

Steven Weiss, Bryan McCabe, and David Booth traded from Florida.

Ales Hemsky and Vandermeer, maybe Penner from Edmonton

Tim Connolly from Buffalo

John-Michael Liles from Colorado

Jason Arnott from the Devils

Chris Neil,Filip Kuba, Alex Kovalev from Ottawa

Fredrik Sjostrom from Toronto

Zherdev and Shelly

I would like Howson to try get Weiss and McCabe if a deal can be made. Even better would be a trade that gives up picks and doesn't have a huge effect on the current roster. Nash and Voracek between Weiss would be a dangerous line.

Edit: I wouldn't want a number of these guys. No thanks to Arnott, Neil, Kuba, Kovalev, Zherdev...

I'd take Shelley for nostalgia only
