i understand that the price for bogo is probably ridiculous, but i would love to know what it is from the cbj so that i feel better about not getting him.

Well, since Howson told PuckDaddy we aren't close, Portzline wins this battle royale.

To be fair, anything a GM says on deadline day should be taken with a massive grain of salt.

Klesla GONE, Upshaw on board ? This is a successful trading day. Period. Just to get rid of Klesla would make my day but to get someone as valuable as Upshaw !!!! Wow.

Not sure if TFP is just going off of Portzline but they have updated their Live Blog: "1:15pm - Columbus isn't close, but they'd like to make another move."

According to "twitter", Oduya is getting close.

We'll see.
Colorado would probably want a pick... Atlanta on the other hand is still in it??? I don't follow the East.

I could see Juice moving to Atlanta, not so much with the Avs

Howson's already had a great day, if he unloads Juice he can cement his legacy in Columbus.

I believe that Atlanta and the Leafs are either 3 or 4 points out.

Complicating things, Atlanta is currently trying to sell its team. So, I doubt they take on salary. If anything, they may be sellers just to give the new owners flexibility.

By trading a solid, if injury prone d-man for two soon to be free agents?

The hyperbole is thick today. It is a good trade from our end, but it really doesn't address our biggest needs in any way shape or form.

Having some additional cap space come next off-season is nice, but for it to be of any value, we still have to do something with said space.

It's hard to judge this one, IMO, until we find out if Upshall is anything more than a rental.

Yes, the additional $3 million we don't have to pay Rusty can be used on other things. That alone makes it great, hopefully he does use it on something else we need later.

why?

we just unloaded $3M of a guy who was not going to be a part of our future which can now be used to bring in a person of need in the offseason.. potentially someone better than upshall if he does not want to stay here.

E.J. Hradek: Columbus GM Scott Howson says he doesn't anticipate doing any other deals today.

NHL Live:
-GMSH isn't sure anything else is coming.
-Rusty's a good guy, good personality in the community. Hard to move him.
-Upshall will bring scoring, tenacious player, hopeful for an offensive jolt.
-Lepisto underrated, maybe some PP work coming for him.
-Both players fit what GMSH wants to accomplish.
-GMSH would like to add another center if he could find one by the end of the day, but doesn't sound optimistic.
-GMSH wonders if things are slowing down, still calling around. Been slower for him as opposed to past years.
-Happy with the push? Tough loss yesterday. GMSH- Happy, credit to players and staff, all have bought in. Good run, will be tough to make the playoffs, below the pack but with games in hand. Last 21 games, hoping for wins the rest of the way. Team deserved to stay together.

This is where deadline day becomes a game of telephone. It is quite possible Hradek simply misunderstood earlier Howson quotes saying nothing was imminent. There is a subtle difference.

True, but we were reported to be buyers at the deadline, not sellers.

Not saying that freeing up the money isn't a plus, but I'd still feel much better about it if Upshall re-signs here.

That's true. I hope Howson has some assurances that Upshall will sign. If he's a rental, then it's an ok deal. If he signs it's a very good deal.

Upshall is a gritty, North South guy who will fight for a spot in front to the net and drives directly on goal. He's a typical Flyer or Duck type player, which fits well for Arniel.
