NBA Sacramento Kings situation: April 2012 UPD: Deal to stay put crumbles
Seeing the Canucks thread - I figure this is as important. The article states they want to apply before the March 1st deadline a simple majority is required, but the Clippers and Lakers are likely to put up a huge fight to prevent a third NBA team in the LA area. The ducks owner is onboard and is offering a 100m loan to facilitate the move. How badly would this impact sponsorships and the Ducks, or do the Ducks own the Honda Center?
The "problem" of staying in Sacramento is that the Arco arena is terrible and the state/local/private interests have not approved plans/found funding for a new replacement arena.
(The ice plant broke 5+ years ago, so the Sharks can't play and pre-season games there; as well as no touring ice shows.)
Would open up Northern California to NBA Oakland Warriors, as well as perhaps increase hockey sponsorship of San Jose and ECHL Stockton (which is about 30 minutes from Sacramento).

So Cal can't support 3 NBA teams.
What they should do is look at jobing.com Arena in Glendale!
Why not KC? They have the new arena, and IMO, the fanbase to support the team.
Money... Probably more to be made in Anaheim vs. KC. If the Maloofs continue to own the team, they could push the Clippers to #3 in the area since Sterling doesn't spend jack on the Clippers. If the Maloofs spend money, NBA players would want to play in Anaheim.

I think the Clippers are finally ready to emerge from the huge shadow cast by the LA Lakers. After all, they have the league's most exciting young player in Blake Griffin. Not sure if even Sterling can screw up that potential goldmine. JMO but I can't see LA supporting three NBA teams.
I would hate to see the Kings leave. That market supported some pretty bad teams for a very long time. If they have to move, I would like to see a move to KC. They have roots there. They could even pick up the KC-Omaha moniker again. New arenas in both towns.
How many NBA teams should be stuffed in to the LA area anyway? It seems like it would be better for the league to steer them towards Vancouver or bring back the Sonics (with a new arena deal in place).
I think Clips to OC would have been the best solution. I think they wooed them pretty hard 10 years ago. I believe some regular season games were even played there. In the end, Sterling preferred playing the second fiddle downtown.

I have complete faith Sterling could mess up just about anything.
Fudge the Kings. They should go back to Rochester where they belong.
If you think Bettman and the NHL are bad... the evil dictatorship of the NBA has allowed FOUR TEAMS to leave New York State. It's a total anti-NY bias.
Sacramento is a viable city for a pro sports team if they can find a way to snag a new arena. An owner willing to throw down on the majority of the costs would have major success here.
