Well Martindale isn't coming back the Oilers decided to send him to the AHL instead so that leaves a vacant Centre position between Prince and Toffoli. Whether or not they mesh is one thing, but on paper it looks pretty nice.
Monahan could really come out of this season as the favorite for #1 overall next year. I know it's really, really premature to say something like that, but this kid isn't just an offensive machine he can also play defence.
Can anyone provide further insight on him? He is 6'2 and born in October 1994. He has 12 points in 5 games so far with the Ottawa 67's. I think he just passes the cut off date for 2013 draft, but I am not entirely sure. Thanks in advance!
Nathan MacKinnon says hello. Sure, Monahan is impressive, but MacKinnon is at his first year in the CHL and already dominating for the Halifax Mooseheads. He's also more proven on international stage or call it how you wanna it at the Canada Winter Games.

Where did MacKinnon come into the Sean Monahan thread...

**** off. This thread isn't about MacKinnon, until you posted no one even mentioned MacKinnon. No one said Monahan is better, but this thread is about him. MacKinnon has his own thread, take it there.

This is insane. I coached Sean when he was a kid playing lacrosse for the Brampton Excelciors. He was an unreal lax player too! He's an incredibly gifted kid and it's awesome to see how well he's doing right now.

Proven what?
I'm a big MacKinnon fan, but he didn't even prove he was the be 1995 born forward at that tournament. Of course, not to mention that's irrelevant to this thread.

Too bad you're a Leafs fan, because the Sens are going to draft him.

Someone said Monahan could challenge for number 1 next year and dude say no chance, MacKinnon as a 95 is doing jsut as impressive in his first year as Monahan in his 2nd year. Nothing wrong with that.
Thought his OHL Cup was somewhat of a fluke, he's certainly proved me wrong in his rookie season and the early part of this season as well. What syle of game does he play?

It's early but as a general comparison I'd say he's more of an Eric staal. Haven't seen him this year.

You weren't the only one. There's always a few players that rise their draft stock with a strong OHL Cup. Many, myself included, thought that he was one of those players. His development in the last year and a half has been insane.

I compare him to Johnny Toews.
Monahan can burn you so many different ways on the ice. It depends on what line he's matched up against. He is good at shadowing in the defensive zone and shutting guys down, then heading back the other way and putting one in the net. He looks like a different player any given shift depending on the match up.
