Oilers place High Price on Penner, Hemsky

Via TSN's Ryan Rishaug on Twitter:
http://twitter.com/TSNRyanRishaug

Quote:
Caps and Oil have talked hemsky, nothing close as oil would want alzner or karlsson, not likely for caps.
Quote:
Sorry.. Hemsky has one more year on his deal, but is a good fit in Wash. If they find a deal.
Quote:
Kings also interested in Penner or Hemsky, but preliminary talks only. Lombardi pplays it tight. Oil would look at schenn, clifford
ect.
Quote:
Canadiens also interested in Penner, but so far not offering much.
EDIT: http://insider.espn.go.com/nhl/featu...tures%2frumors
ESPN Rumor Central:
Quote:
It's a high price, but the Oilers have the luxury of being sellers in what appears to be a market full of buyers. So they will probably hold out for high draft picks or high-profile prospects when trading both Hemsky and Penner.
2nd EDIT: ESPN
Quote:
Rishaug thinks that the Oilers will ask for Karl Alzner or John Carlson in return -- a price the Caps won't want to pay. However, if there are other ways this deal could work -- perhaps involving other Caps' players, or if the Oilers sweeten the pot for one of the young d-men.
Quote:
Itís no secret the Oilers were offering just about everybody to get a shot at big Portland Winterhawks centre Ryan Johansen, the second-best junior to Kings prospect Brayden Schenn on Canadaís world team this past Christmas. Hemskyís name came up, then.

Carlson, Alzner obviously too high for WAS or a trade would have been made. Same for LA with Brayden Schenn, Clifford. This should give us a solid idea of NHL GM's value on these guys.

This isn't neccessarily true. GMs can sit on trades/trade offers for a very long time.

I'm sure he knows but he just wanted to be quick to get it out and had a brain fart. What person in hockey doesn't know who John Carlson is?

I honestly hope the oilers don't trade Hemsky at all if we don't get this type of return. I'd rather let him walk then get crap in return.

One spelling mistake via Twitter, big deal. Rishaug is definitely "in the know" and one of the most reliable sources when it comes to the Oilers.

Agreed, they lose credibility when they can't even get the names right.

It's Carlson, is it not? And they won't get either for Hemsky or Penner. Nor will they get Schenn.

They are good players but not great players to warrant a high price like that and Carlson and Alzner are probably Caps future 1st pairing D-men (I believe they are playing like that right now).

I think they could fetch a 1st + good prospect (not prospects like Schenn).

Hemsky is a magnificent player and the Oilers are well within their rights to command a king's ransom, particularly with another year left on his deal at a great salary. Tambo is definitely in the driver's seat with so many interested teams. Hopefully he can turn these 2 into some real assets moving forward.

Yep, McKenzie spells names wrong, and we all know he has zero credibility.

i agree with that, but if they thought the value was great for them (Washington Capitals trading Carlson/Alzner for Hemsky) i would think they would immediately make the deal.

A TSN source didn't know it's Carlson on the Caps?

I just dont think professional journalists use their professional media organizations to put out "tweets" without first using spellcheck.

he's typing fast, and he's in Canada. not hard to believe he confused the spelling with Ottawa's Karlsson.

How would spell check help in this case?

Karlsson and Carlson are 2 different players. If these guys are going to report stuff at least you should know which players play on which teams.

Well I'd hope so, the Oilers have no reason to trade them. They have both stated they would like to resign here

It's twitter. This wasn't put on the TSN main page or anything where they probably have an editor. I can't believe people are getting their panties in a bunch over a misspelling on a tweet.

I disagree, because it seems as if Tambellini has never been the type to jump at deals. He's not exactly quick with transactions.

If Alzner, for example, was offered for Hemsky, I would think/hope the Oilers would ask for more.

Come on. It's pretty obvious he wasn't talking about Erik Karlsson.

Alzner's going to be a great defensive dmen with some decent offensive skills for a long time.

I can, because an insider actually has the gall to suggest that Hemsky and Penner *gasp* are worth something good... therefore, the insider can't have any credibility.
