World's Longest Hockey Game

There's been plenty of advertising for this locally, but I hope that posting it here might increase awareness a bit.

I'm volunteering this time around, and have been given permission to post my pledge link here. I'm hoping HF can raise a modest $100.

I'll be out there most days, working in the food tent or the auction trailer. For those who make it out there (it's a great thing to behold), look me up, I'll be in an Oilers jersey all of the days.

Thanks!

DONATE

More importantly, vote here for the Pepsi Refresh grant of $100,000:

Good for you, it sounded like a great cause from what I heard while I was up there.

I have two buddies playing. Lots of slush right now. I'm hoping the weather cools off a bit for them.

Starting to see more and more people as the afternoon progresses.

Score: Blue 270 - White 156

Still a bit of time left for a rally by the White squad.

I have heard about this on the radio and on TV but what I always miss is where it is taking place!

So please... where is this going down?

There is a map to the location on the main site, which can be accessed through the link in the first post.

Biggest way HF as a whole can help out is to vote for the game at the Pepsi Refresh Project website:

http://www.refresheverything.ca/worldslongestgame

Winner gets $100,000.

A bump and reminder to vote for the Pepsi refresh grant on the link above. The guys are in good spirits after some massive ice challenges.

$ 40,000 Materials and supplies to build the rink
$ 25,000 Food for the players for ten days
$ 35,000 Equipment for the players

Shouldn't the players just use their own equipment so that money could be given to the cancer fund?

The voting ends on the 28th and the 10-day game is now half over... I'm just guessing but I assume the Pepsi prize money will all end up going to the charity since the above list of things will have already been paid for.

BTW: tentative plans to be doing Saturday's edition of The Pipeline Show from the game. Stop by and say hello.

Everybody has got to get their votes in. I just voted and an extra $100,000 would be awesome.

I think you missed the spot on this one Guy.

Regardless of if the $100,000 is obtained or not. The $35,000 spent on equipment could already be in the amount going to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

So it is a good question, why do they have to spend that much in equipment when a lot of these people should have equipment already?

Does equipment include Zamboni and fuel? Skate sharpening? Nets? Maybe there was something from the Pepsi people that said they had to declare what the money would be used on (although listing the hospital equipment would make more sense). Beats me, that's a question for Brent Saik I guess.

Again, I'm guessing here... but I'm betting most of the guys in the game had their own hockey equipment before hand. I could be wrong. The jerseys are obviously new for this though.

What? I thought every Canadian owns a Zamboni...

Sorry I never meant to come off as pompous. I just thought equipment pads and that kind of gear. I guess I was just looking for a further explanation of why they spend that much.

I understand they make new jerseys every year but I would be surprised if they do not get those jerseys paid for in return for some type of sponsorship. Something like that should be easy for an event of this magnitude.

I believe they do auction off a lot of the used equipment and donate it to local charites as well. I know they've done that in the past.

Also, I think people don't realize the huge scale of putting on a fund raiser of this kind. The amount they've given in dollars to charity far outweighs their costs.

I could be wrong, but didn't Brent have a zamboni that broke down a week ago or something?

Either way I'm not going to question him because I know what he has had to do to prepare this event.
