This will not end well. Let me sum it up in advance.

Penner is fat and lazy
Maxpac = Taylor Hall
Tinordi is untouchable
How about Kristo + 2nd?
Edm says no, Mtl says no

a more rational response (somewhat at least) would be to say pacioretty is the only guy in the top 6 with size and scoring acumen and something we need to add to therefore trading him for penner would be treading water as opposed to helping the team in either the short or long term, therefore adding a guy like penner would only make sense if we added him to the already present pacioretty

Pretty much and Brule is pretty much useless.

The Oilers need the size/scoring combo as much as MTL does. Trade Penner only for a complete centre/defence prospect. If that isn't offered, then keep him. Players like him are hard to replace.

A trade between Montréal and Edmonton involving Penner for Pacs as the main pieces is essentially Montréal saying we're going for it now, **** the future. Actually, a trade between Montréal and anyone involving Maxpac would be kinda dumb. Not only is he a big body, he can skate really well.

Montréal does have potential power forward type players, let a lone develop them. MaxPac is a rare type of player in Montréal. It could very well be why there's pure hatred and pure infatuation for players with skill in Montréal. They're an unknown commodity.

Sorry but no thanks, we went over this already, a Patches for Penner doesn't make sense for the Habs as Patches is going to be exactly that at a cheaper cost. For sure the Oilers want a great return but they ain't getting Patches, no thanks

Fair enough

I guess we just don't make good trading partners

Good luck to the Habs getting out of there mini funk & finding the right trade/players to make a run in the playoffs

I admit its alot closer than past Habs-Oil threads. But personally I wouldnt want to give up Patches. He is younger and faster and cheaper than Penner.

Make it Eller, Tinordi, Maxwell, 2nd and I'd do it....

Countered by

Penner is a premier power forward
Maxpac = flash in the pan
Tinordi is a bust
how about Omark?

The fact is that Montreal and Edmonton don't make good trading partners. Plus, there are a good number of homers in each fanbase.

Montreal is Not trading Pacioretty. Unless a Superstar is coming back the other way. Hes could be Montreal's first powerforward in a long time.

Not a terrible trade proposal value wise, but as many have said, it's kind of like trading 4 quarters for a dollar. Obviously Penner is better than Patches now, but Patches has finally shown what he is capable of this year, and he should probably finish with 20 on the year, and should be a 30-30 or 30-20, or 20-30 guy going forward.

But not a bad proposal, but we don't have a second for this year.
