If I'm the Habs, I agree to this so fast that Subban leaves a vapor trail on his way out of town, but there's also an $8M (EIGHT MILLION) difference in salary to contend with.
Rationale: Colorado is desperate for offense, they need the potential to replace Stastny (eller), a current top line winger for duchene (Gio/Cammy) and a pick to even it out.
From a pure value point of view, MTL can not say no to this deal. Unfortunatelly, this is a deal that make no sense from an organisational point of view : salary, needs, etc.

It is certainly a pretty hefty contract for 70-80pt guy, but really he is only overpaid by about 1.5 million I think. Similar to Koivu in Minnesota, but he's also very important to the team just like Koivu is.
I wouldn't do this though just because Subban has the potential of being a 50-70 pts a year defenseman who is pretty physical, pretty solid defensively already, and has many, many intangibles that you just don't get in just any other players.
Also Colorado wouldn't do this deal either. The deal proposed by LA is a much more plausible trade.
Oh, and what the hell happened to JM Liles this year? He was on fuego at the beginning of the year, but it seems like since December he has been average at best.

Using an overpaid player to justify a high contract is just not the way I like looking at it. It's like comparing players' production by looking at some that are worse instead of better.

The Stastny to LA rumor actually filled a need: Johnson would give us another top end defender to build around and Bernier would give us a top end goalie prospect who's ready to to prove himself. None of these other Stastny to __ proposals do that.

Why, because we traded Stewart? He'll be hard to replace, sure, but the team played half the year without him and didn't really miss a beat. The team has actually looked a lot worse since losing Fleishmann. Like I said, the current slump isn't indicative of the team's ability to score. It's not like this team will never score another goal.
I dont do this as a habs fan. I believe Subban Can be A Norris candidate in the future. You don't trade those types of defenseman for overpriced 70pt players. Sorry.
