New Jersey Devils NHL 43GP 9G 8A 17P 6PIM +9

I will be defining prospects based on HF's criteria.

Quote:
1. If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.

2. An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players that turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to
the criteria above.

3. European players who sign their first NHL contract at or above the age of 22 have three seasons from the time they sign that contract to meet the above criteria. Those European players below the age of 22 that have signed a NHL contract will be subjected to the criteria in section one.

Ceiling vs. experience vs. age - still have to go with Gelinas, close.

Add Sova.

I think Taormina would have outplayed Fayne if he had the whole season. I rank the defensemen at the moment: Tao-Gelinas-Fayne-Burlon

EDIT: Nominating Frazee for the poll. I'm also a fan of Hoeffel and Helgeson.

I was between Tao and Gelinas. It's completely baseless conjecture, I just have a feeling that we already saw Fayne's peak last season, and Taormina's and Gelinas's upside are a good amount above that.

I don't think we've seen Fayne's peak, since we watched him get better and more comfortable as the season progressed, right up until the end. I want to see his sophomore jump before I even think about him reaching his peak.

I have this bad feeling that Gelinas is going to bust. Picked Tao, he was great during his short stint here.

I picked Tao as well. I think his ceiling is, at least pts-wise, pretty high.

Was a tough choice between Tao and Gelinas though.

I'm not sold on Tao's defense yet. Right now he looks like a powerplay specialist to me.

And that's a very valid concern. Is he in the MAB mold, or can he play a more rounded game? That's all up to him. Definitely has to add bulk and work on his D game. I think he's in the top-6 come opening night..

I voted Gelinas, but I was very close to picking Taormina. I refuse to buy into the fact that Fayne is a better prospect. Taormina shined before any of us knew who Fayn was.

Anyway, how many people have nominated Vasyunov the last 8 polls? He's going to the KHL and I'm not expecting a North American return any time soon.

Taormina shined offensively, in flashes, and was pretty bad defensively. He has a good potential and may be able to contribute long-term, but only if he significantly improves everything about his game not involving shooting or setting up a shot.

If Fayne improves at a realistic level, we have a good all-around defenseman. He's already solid defensively - positionally and physically - and knows how to move the puck reasonably well. And as much as I don't want to be a size queen, he's big and he can skate.

If Taormina improves at a realistic level, we have a good powerplay pointman who can move the puck very well and put up some points, while taking sheltered shifts. I just don't like the way he plays in the defensive end, and I don't think his offensive talent is enough to justify the deficiencies in the other parts of the game. At his best I see him as a Marc Andre Bergeron type.

That being said, I do hope Taormina rounds out his game without sacrificing his offense.
