2 Firsts for Weiss.

I'm at work right now and listening to FAN 590 pretty much all day. Since the morning that are talking about trading Boston's and Philly's firsts for S.Weiss.
What do you guys think?
I don't really thunk that would be enough to get him. But if it somehow went through,I'd be ecstatic.

I don't really like this...Weiss is just another #2 Centre, he is not the answer to our problems.

BTW, some fan suggested this, Burke has not offered that, aka speculation.

Did I miss something? I'm listening to the fan590 as well and I don't see how this idea of trading two 1sts for Weiss is a rumour. The host is just speculating about this on his own. He's not getting this from a source.

I made that proposal after hearing Kabby was traded; maybe they read my post

Seriously though, I'd be all for it. This years draft is very weak and I don't see the benefit of having two firsts. I'd be more happy with the guarantee that Weiss would bring.

Maybe Bozak and a first would do? I don't see him fitting in next year with Kadri and/or Colborne coming up.

I'd rather keep the picks than trade them for a second line C

Why does everyone love Weiss so much. He is pretty overrated IMO

PK Subban, Nikolai Kulemin, Milan Lucic, Duncan Keith, all of them (I believe) picked in the 2nd round. We have our high second AND two low 1sts. In my opinion you keep all of these picks and raise the odds that we pluck a PK Subban or Milan Lucic out of this year's draft.

I'd do it, I would prefer to give up 1 first, but there's a good chance he turns out to be a much better player than both first rounders combined. Signed at $3.1 million through 12/13 and he's 27 right now, so it'd allow us alot of cap flexibility going forward.

i'm on the fence.

pros:
- the two firsts are late, 25-30 range
- Weiss is a young #1b center, cap-friendly number at $3.1M
- Kessel finally gets a center to play with
- Gives us immediate help

cons
- trading two 1sts again (should draft a center and develop him instead)
- Not a true #1 center
- Could create controversy with Kadri and Coloborne ready to play next year

Exactly. Yeah if you look at the numbers more than likely you aren't going to draft a guy better than Weiss, but its a calculated risk that IMO you take. A guy like Weiss could be found anywhere. Its just for some reason on this board he is somehow made out to be a god.

Didn't the Leafs already have drafted a C? Someone named Kadri or something like that, in a much higher spot in the draft as well. Not that I really support the idea of trading for Weiss.

What would be the point? We already have a second line center and Weiss isn't good enough to be a first line center. Could he play the wing?

Don't like it straight up but maybe Weiss + prospect (Kulikov) for 1sts and Bozak

We need a FIRST LINE CENTRE.

Weiss is worse than Grabovski.

Problem is,we don't have any other way to get a 1st line center. Richards is not going to be a Leaf. +he will ask for 7-8 mil. What other centers are in sight?
Betting on Kadri or Coulborne is very risky.

It depends on the asking price. Stephen Weiss is coming off of back to back career seasons of 60 points on a terrible team. I think he has the potential to be a 1st line calibre centre in the right situation. He has a left handed shot and could solidify the unit with Kessel and Lupul. As mentioned, he has a very reasonable cap hit for 2 years beyond this season and at 27, he still has an upside.

I would offer Bozak plus a 2011 1st round pick.

A lot Weiss' perceived value stems from him being on a great contract rather than his actual play. He's a good player but it would take too much to get him imo.
