The Leafs had a chance at him, the waiver standings were still based on the previous season's standings at that point.

How about KEEPING our 1st rounders. We can't keep trading away our picks.Teams get better through the DRAFT!!

Weiss reminds me of Stajan we need to start developing our own players into 1st line talent with those picks.

never been a huge fan of Weiss and he isnt exactly a first line center. I would probably still play grabovski ahead of him if he was on this team, and if I was Burke I definetly wouldnt give up 2 firsts for him. Looking at his point totals, one could conclude that he is basically a 50-60 point centerman with only 1 season with over 60 points (61). Hardly the stats of a 1st line centerman, more like an average 2nd line centerman tbh. Weiss would probably be one of my last options of potential centerman to go after, he's just not the type of caliber we need on this team to make us instantly better.

Don't like the idea of adding Weiss at all.

I don't see him as any better than Tim Connolly who would cost next to nothing. Neither is a top line center but failing a big trade or FA signing I would like to see Connolly brought in as a stop gap while they wait for Kadri or other options.

I wouldnt mind either, but the key to that is acquiring for FREE. Heck I would like Weiss for FREE too as a UFA, but if we acquire either of them through trading draft picks. FUK THAT!!!!

What do you guys think?
I don't really thunk that would be enough to get him. But if it somehow went through,I'd be ecstatic.
If we strike out on Richards, or Stastny if he's available then yeah - I would turn my attention to Pavelski or Weiss. Not a 1A but a 1B. 60 - 70 point centre. Will help Kessel more then Bozak. Bozak pointless in 14. If weiss can be just a 60 point player you figure even that would bump Kessel's goal totals up. Maybe as much as 30-33 (what he's on pace for now) to 35 -39.

Come on ! lets have some patience here !!
To those saying "there’s only Richards available this year and he wont sign here" so what?

We aren’t on the verge of competing for a cup here, Richards is the only top drawer centre available THIS YEAR !

It would be great to have a player like that in the team, but years and years of panicking is what’s left us in the hole we're in now !

Time after time the leafs have thrown away the future to get someone that’s going to help NOW, but we aren’t ready to compete now !! bring in some young players and picks but lets not think that if Brad Richards doesn’t come to Toronto we have to rush out and get a 1st line centre from somewhere else right away !

We might go another three years without a “true 1st line centre” and if that’s the way its got to be then fine, as long as we’re looking to compete in the future.. I’d hate to see us throw away 1st round picks and prospects for another quick fix ! lets do it properly !

Would like more 1sts after this, confident in Colborne and Kadri to add support next year while we draft Oleksiak and Rask

he's a very good second line center, which is something we already have in grabovski and kadri, maybe even colborne. we don't need him.

Weiss sucks, but how exactly is Kadri a good 2nd line center right now?

I gives time for Kadri/Colborne to develope at a HUGE upgrade over Bozak.... If a player like Weiss can be had for a 1st + Bozak I would do it in a heartbeat

Why give up Bozak and a first for Weiss? If you are looking to buy some time in order to wait for Kadri and Colbourne to develop, then why not just wait and keep the picks. Dont think the addition of Weiss will make a huge impact to us progressing up the standings...plus we have our first rounder next year as insurance. If you wanted to pickup a stop-gap, then why not go after Connolly or Jason Arnott on July 1st, while keeping Bozak and the first.
